Well, he's in exalted company, and he's the lone player who was on the two teams who took the championship era Bulls to 7 games, the 1992 Knicks and the 1998 Pacers. IMO, the Knicks made a mistake trading away Jackson for Charles Smith and Doc Rivers.

No one in their right mind gonna act like that means these guys can't score. Steph a shooter, Kd is lethal but Scottie close to same height w a 7'3 wing span. That's not bringing up Rodman. Lebron was a DPoY level defender for a bit and has always been a near All NBA defender. KD has been an elite defender the past 3-4 years (was in the DPoY convo in 2017 i think due to his super high def. rating and leading the league in blocks for like 2 months) but he's always had guys like Kawhi and PG outshadowing him. Harden has played decent/sometimes lockdown defense since like 2018 too. Then again, MJ is the GOAT for a reason.

It's why he's the greatest. He could've been a guy who played one side of the floor and that would have made him a great player, but he did it on the other side of the floor too, which makes him the GOAT. Also, this video destroys the narrative that he never defended the best offensive player on the floor.
@bradleyboyer9979
@bradleyboyer9979 11 ай бұрын
That's a narrative? If so, it's absurd. I watched nearly every game of his career, and he frequently guarded the other team's best player. He just happened to have another all-time great defender in Pippen who could also pick up the best player if the matchup was better.
@FredNewsome
@FredNewsome 5 ай бұрын
Michael Jordan always defended the best player, and if a guy got hot Jordan would switch onto him, he took it personally if a guy thought he was going to outscore him in a game. Bottomline MJ was Tom Brady, Derek Jeter, Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods, and Serena Williams, the only Athletes that I have ever seen that were true champions, they rarely beat themselves and even when you have them down they are never out, and MJ was the greatest at that his will to win, his desire to not lose is what will always set Jordan apart, and not to mention MJ played in era of 7ft rim protecting big men who took pride in not getting dunked on, and he dunked on everybody. Lebron is goliath, MJ was David, that is difference,.

Fastball Films not sure if you understand how offensive fouls work. When you initiate the contact in the defensive players space, they will call that an offensive foul. Players can’t forearm or even hand check player these days, it gives the offensive player better opportunity to play face up, thus giving the offensive player more freedom and creativity to make plays. It’s prettier and more marketable type of basketball but definitely not as challenging in terms of finding your own shot.

Here is a direct quote from MJ in the article I linked in my comment above: "It's tough to guard Magic and then go down and be expected to carry the load offensively," Jordan said following the series opener. "It's a challenge, but I have to do it." Maybe not word for word about expending too much energy, but the meaning behind it is the same and he needed Pippen to cover Magic in that series for the Bulls too win. I also seem to remember LeBron guarding D. Rose in his prime several times in a tight Cavs-Bulls series when they needed him the most. He also hounded and shutdown Steph Curry several times in The Finals the year the Cavs came back from being down 3-1.

@@youngblood4127 Pippen was amazing, but placing him top 25-30 would place him ahead of guys like Isiah, Drexler, Dirk, Barkley, Payton, etc and Pippen wasn't better than those guys. It's not even close. I can make the argument that Dominique Wilkins was a better player individually (although I'd give Pippen the slight edge). Pippen was an exceptional player and was deserving of his placement on the NBA's 50th Anniversary team. However, to suggest that he's a top 25-30 player of all-time? Nah

Fun facts: Derrick Mckey, Reggie Miller, Scottie Pippen, and Mark Jackson were drafted in '87 Mark Jackson and Ron Harper were once teammates with the Clippers The 2 MJ's: Mark and Michael were roy winners After being swept by Bird in the playoffs in '86 and '87 Jordan finally beat Bird in a playoff series

The Bulls stars should’ve went to another franchise that would’ve been extremely accommodating, after 98. That simple. That way Scottie can finally re up financially with Jordan. Dennis get his money & Phil get paid as well.

Nothing to be ashamed about Pacers, we Chicagoans feared this team, more than the Pat Riley Knicks, Pacers had shooters, runners, they were strictly bussiness, like Halen Rose would say, We Had Them !!! We let it slip.

Bad call by ref on Reggie, it's not entirely untrue that nba was protecting Jordan once he became a superstar..

in this series alone there were lots of calls in indianas favor in the closing moments of games... uncalled pushoff from reggie before his game winner, uncalled trip that sent the series to a game 7, and a derrick mckey drive to the basket which was a clear offensive foul was called as a defensive foul on rodman which sent mckey to the line...

The Pacers also got every soft call over the Bulls in this game. The preferential treatment is a total myth.

The offensive foul in the last part may not be the right call, it is debatable.
