To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand The Harry Hill Movie. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Harry's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike The Harry Hill Movie truly ARE idiots. What fools.. how I pity them

I watched The Harry Hill Movie last night. I sat there with a huge smile on my face for the full running time and was thoroughly entertained, but - to be honest - there's only a few big laughs along the way and in no way can it justify it's feature film status. It could have been a perfectly acceptable TV special or even a series. It's also lumbered with a painfully bad 'comedy score' that craps over the ...surreal mood (if any film deserved no score to it's advantage, it was this). Saying that, it's very entertaining and the 90 minutes zipped by. There's some great songs, nice visual gags and typical Harry Hill humour. If he's not your thing, this film will be the worst movie ever made. Just avoid it. If, like me, you thought TV Burp was one of the best shows on television, you'll be fine with this...even if you wish it would just kick up a gear.
@leanwaters815111 жыл бұрын
I understand Mark's comments however - film does it no favours, but it's certainly not the 1 star atrocity certain papers/magazines are rating it. I'd give it 3/5.

Now. OK. So.Don't get me wrong, you know, I mean I certainly by no means in any way dislike Mark Kermode and he can on most occasions write and report a cracking and engaging review but for various and complicated, convoluted reasons which I can absolutely not get into right now due to me not really being able to get what I think out of my system straight away and anyway if I'm given a lot of words to use then I for one would without a doubt in my mind and when I say no doubt in my my mind, what I am really saying is that he, and when I say he I mean Mark Kermode is a great guy.
@TeamBombersportsUK11 жыл бұрын
I'm bemused as to why this exists. Harry Hill is excellent on TV, and I am looking forward to his I Can't Sing musical/play. So why is he in his own film? Keith Lemon's career only got trashed off the back of his movie, maybe he can just do what Lemon did and retreat back to the safety of his popular TV shows.

the perennial problem of converting popular multicamera things that play in front of an audience (that the characters react to) to a single camera, no audience vehicle. has rarely worked going all the way back to Hancock. Not just a tv/movie thing, there have been great radio 4 comedy series (live in front of an audience) that have had mediocre transfers to the TV because of that loss of the audience (like Absolute Power or Bleak Expectations)

Expectation. That's the difference between TV and the cinema. When the box is on in the corner of the room it's no big deal, just frothy stuff to pass the time. But when you've parked the car, paid your cash and bought your overly expensive popcorn you EXPECT to be thoroughly entertained and it better do it! That's the difference.

I have a massive fondness for when small screen comedy tries to hit the big screen. On the comedy side it's all subjective but as a snapshot of Britain I find them more honest than many dramas. They have no other agenda than to make you laugh and because of that everything else feels clearer.
@herseem6 ай бұрын
That's an interesting point. I think that's probably also true of a lot of small screen comedy for the same reason - the underlying realness is the familiar territory that we can relate to because it's realistic, that creates the springboard on which the humour is dependent.
