I remember a few years ago when the restored version of Wake of Fright got released in Australia i was really surprised. It's bleak, themes of isolation and self destruction are so well executed. One of the best Aussie films ever made and Donald Pleasence's Australian accent was spot on. Shows he was a very fine actor.

Just watched this for the first time on Amazon prime, had no idea what it was just stuck it on for something to watch and was blown away, what a fantastic film! Not at all easy to sit through yet impossible to look away and in a world of shitty superhero movies this film was exactly what I needed, if only they could still make em like this! And I never saw the boom in shot once! 👍🏼

First film since "Once Upon A Time In The West" (bout a decade earlier) that I started watching half-arsed to spend the time, but switched off about 20 mins in cos I realized: "Fuck me this deserves a proper sit down and 100% attention". Brilliant, brilliant film.

Incredibly, the kangaroo hunt is even more distressing in the novel. I read it around the same time I read George Orwell’s even grimmer Burmese Days (which has a horrifying chapter involving a tiger hunt) and wanted to just crawl into bed and never come out after that.

One of very few films where heat is conveyed properly, doesn't feel like other films of the era, with their shrieking women and bad camerawork. I didn't think I'd watch all the way through, but I could easily watch it again.
@scottsimmons78976 жыл бұрын
Poppycock. Everyone is being overly sensitive about the kangaroo hunt and the movie itself. It was a dark dark movie but not really frightening or scary at all. It is one of the greatest film made.

People always focus on the kangaroo hunt, when in actual fact, there are some much more disturbing things happening in this film. Is this an indication of denial, the kangaroo scene being a convenient distraction or out. I mean, as much as this is about humans.
