MARK KING of LEVEL 42 discusses BOON GOULD's influence to the band in the early days. I am still in shock about Boon's passing on 30th April 2019 but I count myself very lucky to have met him so many times and my own tribute is here: • BOON GOULD My tribute ... Got lucky enough to come across Mark King in London and was spending some days off in the country. He was so humble and nice to me enough to dedicated some minutes to talk a little bit with me and took a picture done with me. Moment was wonderrful for I felt like being in the 80'S back again. Love that Man and all Level 42 music. Respect and miss the great 80'S.

I was lucky enough to meet Mark twice in fact back in the 80's and he is such a thoroughly decent and nice guy. Very sad about Boon, possibly one of the most under rated guitarists ever and a key component of the Level 42 sound.

Mark, I've met just once, the most non arrogant down to earth lovely man, you could hope to meet. I still forgiven him for thinking I was a member of the press at their Ryde Gigs. Such a genuine guy

I still have a mental image of him teasing Cherie Lunghi in the video for Something About You. She looked pleasingly annoyed and they ended up driving down the driveway in a Shelby AC Cobra, the number plate read: RAM 1T. And his playing and writing are brilliant. RIP Boon. Say Hi to Alan & Allan.

Great interview and Mark hits it right in the head about Boon. He was such an underrated guitarist, some of the guitar lines that he created especially in the early days of Level 42 is as complicated and difficult as Mark's basslines to play.

@@JulianHallLevel42 no what i ment with underrated is not enough people reconized he's amazing guitar skills. If you analyze some of the stuff he does and some of his choice of notes in his solos and some of the chords/riffs he puts into the songs you will find out how truly amazing and unique a guitarrist he was

KS I’m a guitarist as a hobby at this point and take lessons from a jazz professional but I get what your saying about Boon - he was a brilliant guitarist always playing brilliant melodies that fit the songs and he didn’t play fast solos to play fast , the solos went with the melodies of the songs . He complemented mark , mike and Phil well and the chemistry of the original lineup was one any working musician would do anything to have . It’s like true love , a great musical chemistry is rare
@Generalbas1972

@@mariomessina1147 not only that but he could also play a killer "funk" groove guitar and he's sound was very interesting. The les Paul, with a little distortion, delay and reverb and some chorus that's the sound he uses when he plays "funk" grooves

Nice to hear how close he and Boon were as buddies. It rings true because Boon appeared to stick around Mark even after he left the band. To an outsider which I am of course, they seem like chalk and cheese the pair of them....so it's lovely to hear they connected so well. I'm fond of Boon. Always have been. I have mental illness in my family and I myself had a brush with suicide in 2017. So even though I wouldn't have seen any of this coming I found myself looking out for to see how Boon was, noticing early on that he was a quiet one with no performer theatrics or poses, then having to fulfil a function in a corporate-driven success. I did meet him once. A softly spoken man but with an endearing smile. I like and admire how he plays in Level 42. So much modesty and restraint within a powerhouse, indeed performing next to a powerhouse!

Nice that my upload of the Montreux Jazz gig got a mention. I'll probably get a YT strike now. Hehehe. Sad about Boon. One of the first members of a Brit Funk band to pass away. He had a very unique funky swing. It's amazing how Boon sounds funkier than Nathan. I blubbered away while listening to his funk chops of the song World Machine recently. I didn't think I would get so emotional about it. Thanks for the upload Julian.

@@JulianHallLevel42 Level 42 are one of my all time favourite bands, managed to see them live in Dundee (early 1990's) while up there for work. Yes they have a bass player that is up there with the finest in the world, but all the other members of the band were/are utterly brilliant and they created such a synergy.
