I know this interview is already 3 years old, but I would like to make a statement in behalf of Mark. Mark is known for his slapping on the bass and that is alright. But... he is so much more! He is absolutely musical in his fingerstyle playing. He mentioned Jaco Pastorius but I think (and if you listen to him closely) he is right up there. It is absolutely fundamental to pay our respect to the talent mister King has! Not only as a slap bassist but as a total musician. It is understated and unfair... Mark King is King of bass...

12:20 what about an app that lets you know if Mark King is doing his weekly shop ? Mark is always SO giving with his time to fans. I have a wall of autographs from Level 42 and Mark. One is a Standing in the Light LP signed by the REAL Fab Four in 1983 !

Absolutely wonderfully done. I love the way she lets him do his thing, and doesn’t interrupt him. Love those Alembic bass, since I have 2 myself. I regret selling my Kingbass because of financial difficulties at the time, that I got from Rob myself when I went back home to the UK. You have to love this man, I would love to meet him one day, he’s just a few years older then myself.

Heard so may interviews with Mark King, thought I wouldn't hear anything new, but this was so much fun. Hope Mark recorded the whole thing from his end with a good mic and puts the live playing bit out. That has to be Suzi's easiest IV of the series, Mark talks like he plays...

Fantastic Interview! I agree with others below, this was a totally different and very interesting look at Mark King. Typically, he's been at Talk Shows or those stale Photo Journalist interviews. I have seen his studio before, but Suzi's history with the Level 42 Band really brings Mark out to talk of things he and his bandmates have done, and the people he's met that I have never heard before. Nothing like killing it on Bass on the Show. I'll have to look for videos of his daughter as he is so proud of her.

Mark has always been undervalued by the bass community especially the American players, his playing has been responsible for so many people taking up the bass because he brought jazz and fusion quality playing into pop music something none of the American bass stars managed to do as their virtuoso playing was confined to jazz and fusion recordings, with at best the odd session playing on a big hit. (Although there are not that many really big hits with really complex bass lines.). Probably the most successful in pop of that generation would have been Bernard Edwards although it was his groove and feel that set him apart.

Mark is such a great guest, always good fun and a real nice guy! Met him years ago when Level 42 came to Brighton to play in Sherry’s (1980/81 the Love Meeting Love era) got some real good advice about bass playing which has stayed with me forever 😊 Last time I saw him was at Hurtwood 2014. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2nRnZZqh6ioiJo
