The living legend that is Mark Knopfler. Incredible artist.

Mark Knopfler is number 1 for me. He wrote this for the film Local Hero, it's one of the greatest instrumentals ever. Mark and Jeff Beck had actually started talking about doing a duet album together just before he died. Paul McCartney was asked to be on this track too, but, he had to say no because couldn't find time in his schedule.

Hats off to Guy Fletcher for somehow integrating all these performances into a coherent and wonderful whole.

The Shadows covered this track shortly after Local Hero came out in 1983. Dire Straits used to play it as their final encore and a couple of years later during their Brothers in Arms tour Hank Marvin joined them on stage at some of their gigs to perform it with them. You could tell how much Mark Knopfler loved that, Hank being the reason he coveted a red Stratocaster as a boy. (Hank was the first person in the UK to own a Strat, bought for him by Cliff Richard.)

It just shows all the respect that Knopfler has for all these crazy good musicians, and vice versa. Knopfler is my top of the bunch. It's a personal thing. But this whole list is just ridiculous
