I was born in 1998 in Post-Soviet Ukraine, and my Dad (a self-taught guitarist and a huge fan of MK and Dire Straits who doesn't even speak English) bought a CD player around the same time. From day one I've been listening to Mark's voice, he's my third parent in a way. I'm 23 now, and every single song of his has accompanied my life in a special way. I still have rediscoveries with Mark's discography, every age seems to align with certain moods and sounds. I'm glad to see Mark come up with more and more music and I'm so grateful for it all. He evolves as a songwriter and helps me evolve as a person, too.

Mark is unique and a virtuoso, it's not a competition, he has his own unique style, one of my favorite guitarist today without a doubt, a great guy too. Mark Knopfler brings out this terribly enormous desire in me of meeting someone and growing old together in a farm in Scotland, surrounded by nature, music, books, warm home gatherings with nice food and lovely people. Basically, warmth, to go with the ups and downs of life. And kindness and authenticity. So, yeah, someone to share this wonderful music with and kind of be embedded in that mood ♥

I started listening to Mark's post Dire Straits stuff when I read the lyrics to Telegraph Road. Being from Michigan and having family from Toledo I wondered what would make an extremely talented and successful rocker from the British Isles write a song about a road between Detroit and Toledo? So I dug a little further and marveled at the stories, the history, and yes the unbelievable music that you get with his product. This revelation happened at the same time I started to get weary from another famous rocker who thought we were wanting sermons when we just wanted entertainment and songs....Suffice it to say that streaming and supporting Mark Knopfler is a value proposition and I always feel like I get the better end of the deal. I also find his work "fatigue proof" and every month when Tidal sends me my streaming recap there his mug is right out front. Where I hope it will stay for many years to come!

I've always been enamored with Mark's work with Dire Straits, and there is no doubting whatsoever as to his musical abilities in every sense, but "Shangri-La" is by far my very favorite album of his, hands down. It's so warm and unpressured, yet full of another great and varied story with each successive track. I found it astounding to learn that a SCOTTISH musician had to tell the world in song, the real story behind the McDonald Brothers and Ray Kroc, and how it became one of the truly greatest AMERICAN success stories ever - I find that aspect mind-blowing! This fact is chronicled in the director's comments in the film "The Founder", with Michael Keaton playing the role of Ray Kroc like nobody else could. I just LOVED this documentary in how it took the time to allow us to see just how it was done, the other talented musicians that made it happen, and the remarkable chemistry that made the music come alive and yet flow so damn easily! Special kudos to the gentleman on the keyboards in "Everybody Pays", my very favorite song on the album - his special touch just really helps MAKE that song into one of the greatest of all time, IMHO - sends a shiver up my spine every time. Thanks Mark Knopfler for being you, and for sharing your awesome God-given gift with us all, while we're alive to enjoy it! Peace!

Mark is the most seriously talented guitarist and songwriter of the last 40 years. As a songwriter myself and guitarist it’s a great mountain you climb as you start out. Of course for me Hendrix, Neil Young and Willie Nelson are the greatest singer/ guitarists ever, in the sense that they can write beautifully yet also express such profound sophistication in the way they just play the guitar. Mark is in the same category, as a great underrated guitar hero who is both literate and thoughtful. He is a master guitarist and songwriter, and gives me so much inspiration.

Thank you for sharing this video. I have been listening to Shangrila almost every day for the last two months and it is such a pleasure in every possible way! My 2 1/2 year old grandson can't get enough of the Song for Sonny Liston..."more Sonny Liston!" We have listened to the song about 100 times now (and I am sure there are a couple hundred more times to come in the not too distant future). He has started to throw out lines from the song now and then. As a consequence I have spent hours thinking about the song and contemplating what makes it so great and I will have to say everything. It is an absolutely perfect song and very compelling story telling.
