Paul Franklin is only featured for 50 seconds in the video, but oh, what a 50 seconds it is. Every riff and every note is exactly where it should be. Such iconic pedal music.

absolutely, there are a few ambitious steel players that have put videos on here, playing this end riff, and they are great efforts, but not entirely on the money Paul is so fast and deadly accurate.

I don’t have to say anything about Mark Knopfler. Everybody knows how good he is, but Mark Knopfler knows how good Paul Franklin is. So does Vince Gill and a LOT of other A-list musicians of all genres. An incredibly well played steel guitar is something to really be appreciated.

Walk of Life is one of the best songs of my life...Love this version. Amazing how seamlessly, wonderfully it bridges across Rock/Roll and country styles! If your toes aren't tapping to this song you are legally dead...and the steel guitar player at the end wooohhh! He has the performance of life time, like he was waiting his whole life for this solo opp and he NAILED it with an inspired performance!!!

I danced to WOL at my daughters wedding July 1999. The music and the occasion made this father / daughter dance a lifetime high point. I get goose bumps every time I hear it. Timeless! This version is exceptional.

I credit Mr Knopfler for my success as a musician. I spent countless hours as a child listening to Dire Straits following along to the rhythm using my mother’s broom as a guitar. It wasn’t until she was getting behind on her chores was when she decided it was time to get me a proper guitar. 30 years to the day, I still listen to Dire Straits, and follow along with the same guitar my mother gave me. Hats off to you Mr. Knopfler a true inspiration to all.

Mark... When i hear other guitarists like Clapton etc. It feels like they always had it, and they never really got better, you know... Mark has had an evolution curve you can really hear with time. And i love it. He never stopped trying to perfect the same old songs. In the 80's he was just another guitarist. i mean he was good. But he became an alltime great after what, 30 years of perfecting his craft

Ohh I was so young and full of hope and energy to and now I'm old and full of hope soley due to motherhood and 🎶. Thankyou as I have never witnessed such a strong and humble lead guitarist. The solo at the end, always gives me goosebumps...! What is interesting as a fact is that except of Mark, everyone else in the band plays multiple instruments. Even Mark attested to that when I saw him at the concert in Toronto, Canada.

These guys are just the best, this album out sold the number of CD players in the world at the time!! I love watching the band members, especially the 2 short shots of the piano player whose expression is priceless, who is he, does anyone know?? Mark is priceless too, cool and calm, yet fun at the same time!! Franklin on the steel guitar is just fabulous, could listen to him all day - at the end of it all, only these guys could make 3-4 chords so appealing and totally enjoyable - KEEP UP GUYS!!!
