As that red-haired former stripper from a lifetime ago, I thank you for this. I was very surprised to be remembered, much less to be mentioned in his book. The eventual whiskey soured tomfoolery notwithstanding, most of that evening was spent in deep conversation- about a thousand other things completely unrelated to the occasion and the maelstrom surrounding us. When Mark took the stage, Layne and I stood at the side, grinning like fools…even as drunk as he was, Mark’s voice was perfect. I am so very sad that he is gone.

That's not a typo. an apostraphe is used there to show possesion. The apostraphe is also acceptable after the 's'. Either of "Laynes' performance" and "Layne's performance" is gramatically correct.

The funniest part about this story, is that later on down the line, Mark ran into Everlast, and Everlast was super excited to see him, and told him that he had something he’d be really interested in. Mark got excited cuz he thought Everlast had caught on that Mark was a junkie and Everlast must’ve had some good dope. They went back to a secluded area and Mark got really excited cuz he was dope sick and was finally going to get well! Until Everlast pulled out a bag of weed 😂 Mark shook his head and was like “uhh, yeah, I quit smokin man sorry.” 😅

As a former addict myself, it's really a shame seeing these rockers glorify abominable behavior like this. It's nothing to be proud of. What they always leave out is all the suffering & pain they cause for others in their self-centered delusional addicted state, probably because they're still not aware of all the damage they did to others themselves... and most aren't, until they're actually repentant.

The I.V. antibiotics would have been early fluoroquinolones. Barely made available to the public after their u.s. military usage in Desert Storm. Heavy doses of those can cause side effects for the rest of your life (tendon disintegration, heart aneurysm, mitochontrial DNA damage) Many soldiers blame their gulf war syndrome on thebdrugs... I wonder if it didn't complicate things for him later in life.

Yep. Absolutely not real friends at all. Lanegan may have been with Kurt when he died. Seems there are some real questions regarding his whole story with that. Mark Lanegan was not a good guy. And I think it is very sad Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain both got mixed up with him. Ya know, it sure is interesting. Both Kurt and Layne had become these big stars. With loads of money. And Mark's band never made it that big like that. I think he was jealous of both of them and the talent they had.

As a guy with a sordid past, this one is tough to listen to. I nearly lost you, I guess. My mistress was Dilaudid, and she was very needy. It got scandalous. Honestly, most of what Lanegan says over the years, I tend to discount. The sheer lunacy of his drug-use deems his memory suspect. And often, other players seem to outright contradict his claims. But this story rings so true, and it hurts to hear the pain in the gravel that is his voice tell it. Funny how he’s even still alive. Of course, the same can be said about each of us, in different ways.

Orgasms make you feel better for like 1-2 minutes when you're dopesick because it releases the same chemicals as opiates do but it goes away super fast.

Sounds like they were just letting him detox and dry out. I'm sure they knew what he had been doing. Their attitude was, "Screw the consequences of withdrawal."

Mark was a grown man……Layne could not force drugs on him unless he wanted it….they were all doing drugs …..and I think Layne lived his own hell and now is at peace.

@@lilpudd1 I'm sure you'd call me a pos if I was manipulating your brother or sister into cutting themselves, so don't play the hypocrite. Offering your so called friends hard drugs makes you a real lonely and miserable pos

@@Marco-717 several of my friends and I did drugs together in my younger days….. because of my age people awakes tried to manipulate me into doing more…. I chose to walk away…. However some of my friends didn’t and now they are gone….. if my brother or sister was a child yeah I would be pissed at you …. But as an adult you can make a choice … I did….. I am not perfect and I make mistakes and I have in my past but at some point you have to answer for your own actions and not blame other people …..
