This was the first song I really heard, by Mark-not having yet been that familiar with the Trees (that all changed, with my first PC). Had the pleasure of seeing him play 3 times. 1-Portland and 2-Seattle, in Dec. 2001 (solo with Mike Johnson) & 3-Newport, KY (by Cincinnati), in 2007, I think it was (Gutter Twins-with Dulli). I'm relieved af that I discovered his music, when I did - and grateful af I got those chances to see him sing, live Mark was a long time survivor who never lessened, lost, sold-out or whored-away any particles of his talent. He was very rare. I will miss him... See you up there, Mark!

Mark's song and video really, really capture the essence of Seattle on a grisly, depressing Sunday. I mean it - this *IS* Seattle of 1990. After 4 years, however, I'd had enough & moved away (though the summers were decidedly glorious).

Poignant AF and and resonates (always) on such an immediate and personal level. Mark spoke to me in ways very few (Cave, JL Pierce, Dylan, and Cohen) have. Underappreciated, brilliantly understated, humble, and truely one of the greats. RIP my Brother.

I feel your blood run cold And it's a rainy Sunday morning I count the million miles I'm driftin' From here, to hell Today Behind their windows people stare Can't recognize the kindness there Just prayers for drownin' ships at sea None for me And you It'll take a hard rain to wash your taste away Still I wish there was a reason left to stay I'm drunk half blind And it's an ugly Sunday morning The wind arrives with the clouds refusing to break Apart, like me Why if all the world's stopped turnin' How can all this rain keep fallin' Washin' me a million miles away From you Why if I'm so alone now Is it getting hard, to say goodbye now Goodbye now
