Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven (But Nobody Wants To Die) is a serious song 🎵 about death to self. The two verses are a contrast. King Hezekiah was afraid to die so God extended his life but he got lifted up in pride and the destruction of the Kingdom of Judah is prophesied. By contrast Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane "Not my will but THINE be done!" This is the way of death to self. We must follow the example of Christ and die to self daily if we want to make Heaven our home. I was meditating on these things on Good Friday of 1995.
