I've seen marketing for Top Gun Maverick. I have friends that have told me how amazing this movie is. But none of that got me to the theater. Know what did? This podcast. I went last night after seeing this. Amazing movie and ya'll need a cut of the box office hahaha.

Kind of humiliating that Andrew's generally terrible taste in films is what pushed you to the theatre.

Top Gun Maverick is a great movie, who cares why Jennifer Connelly was in it, it was fun, big booms, and there were zero issues. It was perfect for what it was trying to be. That's what makes it perfect. Everything they tried to do they did perfectly. It's not an art house movie, you can't judge it on that. It's just a fun blockbuster. If you hate on it, you're the problem.
@davidkelly4992 жыл бұрын
Its an 80s movie but with the poor cgi removed. You are spot on when you say that it achieved exactly what they tried to do. I thought it was fantastic, if you walk in to watch top gun and dont expect some cheesy moments then it isnt for you.

@@clos4474 I think you just have a poor understanding and a lack of wanting to understand his comic take. People call anything that’s sincere cheesy now. I get Mark’s point but it’s so much better that the film isn’t winking at the camera honestly like every goddamn Marvel movie. It’s just a genuine blockbuster.
@dragons_red2 жыл бұрын
True, but I agree with him to some extent. I really enjoyed the movie, but there were some cheezy parts, but completely forgivable given the type of movie it is. It is a really good, well done movie, but people are probably MORE pumped by it because Hollywood has avoided these movies for so long and the public is starving for this content, and the current world sitiation is making us thirst for this type of feel good escapism where the the good guys overcome extreme adversity. Also, the fact that it is mostly real stunts/effects (not CGI fakery) makes ANY movie more exciting because we know they actually did that, it feels real, vs CG which tells us "fake" and we don't feel the same sense of danger and stakes. If the movie came out in the 80s/90s, I think people would have not been AS hyped for it, because we had plenty of that type of movie around.
@Baronnax2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. I'm starting to get more and more into Bollywood and south Indian cinema, and it's kinda endearing how sincere they're about the stories they're telling even if they're completely outlandish. Hollywood needs more of that, we've had enough self-awareness for a while.
