Yep. I'm a Conservative, but I recognize Mr. Steyn as the renaissance man that he is! He has the perfect voice for a certain feel for a song. It's a folksy, earthy sound, and I happen to like it a lot. Would I like it if Steyn were a brainless leftist? I don't know. I acknowledge that. And I acknowledge that my recognition of Steyn as the world's finest commentator on current events today is what opened many doors in my brain to enjoying him as a musician. So, I was predisposed to like this before I even heard it. With all that said, I -- really liked it. And I'd play it again. And again -- the TRUE test of whether one REALLY liked something. Example: I return often to Steyn's rendition of "Marshmallow World," and "She Only Talks That Way To The Cat." That latter reminds me of why I loved swing in the first place. It's just great! I LOVE Steyn's rendition of the hyper-schmaltzy "Marshmallow World," and I gather that "She Only Talks That Way To The Cat" is exclusively Steyn's. That may be true, but it's destined to be a classic soon enough. I'm hoping to hear others' renditions of it. I appreciate all that I've learned from Steyn's political writing, but I have a guilty wish: I hope he'll make a WHOLE LOT more musical recordings in the future. AND I hope that he redoubles his writing on political matters! I know, I know ... I'm not at all selfish. :) Quick note: the lead-up to 4:00 -- "the thousand invitations you'll receive" -- is just delightful! Enjoy this REALLY good song, by a great commentator, and, oh, by the way, a wonderful swing vocalist.

Happy New Year Mr Steyn and thank you for your ongoing work and reaction, particularly to the culture wars and geopolitics, which I enjoy greatly. Loving also the disarming tension generated by your dual commentator/crooner métiers. The way you just do it anyway is a joy when one thinks of the cognitive dissonance and distress it causes liberals.

Great rendition, Mark. Have loved this song first hearing it in '47. I was only 12 then. Please do more Frank Loesser, Jule Styne, Harry Warren, Jerome Kern et al.

Love Mark Steyn and that he focuses on this great song. But he doesn't convey the song with the wistful poignancy it embodies.

Anyone else notice that the room is empty - except that it is set up with wineglasses for couples? Pretty poignant scene for those who will spend yet another New Years Eve with their dogs and/or cats...

Love Mark as a political commentator and raconteur. Not so sure about the lounge lizard songster.
