I heard a stand up say that by the name of Sebastian Maniscalco a long time ago. Also, vinyl can look very cool on sports cars. ;) Having said that, the idea of tattoos being 'forever' is an archaic notion since we have the ability to remove them for decades now. It's not a big deal. Just be careful not to get hepatitis B or another infection when getting one. Personally, I like temporary tattoos. But I do find tattoos incredibly attractive on others.

@@shmookins Well, yeah we have the ability to remove them, but as Mark said it takes multiple visits and probably a ton of cash. In other words not everyone has the ability to remove them. People of lower stature might have the means to acquire them, but removal is a completely different story.

Honestly, Mark is the most spot in here. Tats age VERY poorly, no matter how well they were done. Even trying to re-ink and "update" them doesn't really work. 20 years after you get the tat, it's pretty much a mess. Your skin changes in plasticity and color, you've gained or lost weight (or both, repeatedly), and the sun takes its toll. That doesn't even touch on the "am I the same person as when I got them" issue. It's literally like presuming that wearing the exact same clothes from 15 to 45 is a good idea. Sorry, no.

Two tattoo experiences. First, I used to work in a shipyard, a huge yard that employed over 12,000 people. A really great guy on our crew, a WW2 vet (Navy), had 4 or 5 large tattoo's on his arms, and I asked him about them during lunch one day. He replied, 'Don't ever get a tattoo, mine are over 40 years old, now they are just dark blue blobs that are unidentifiable. Second, I dated a girl in England once who had the tattoo that Minnie was talking about, that comes from book 1, page 1, figure 1. The leaping black panther scratching your arm, leg, whatever. It's not a good look.

I met a guy at an electrical wholesale supply once that was bitching about the tattoo artist miss-spelling his daughter Angel's name as "Angle" on his arm. He showed it to me and we laughed about it. About 5 years later I was working on a dentist office and I was telling some co workers the story about a "dumbass that ...." and this guy walks in the room and says "that was me". Damn we all just fell out laughing. The tattoo artist had done a pretty decent cover and then redid the "Angel" tat on his other arm for free.

What the usual 'guidelines' are for tattoo's: 1. Don't put names of people down that aren't your parents or siblings. 2. Don't put 'something funny' down, unless you are older and you réálly want to. 3. Make sure you are sober. VERY sober. 4. It should be something you wanted for a long time and that dóes have a better meaning than 'pretty picture.' 5. You should print the picture out and stick it on/draw it on. And try to live with it for a week. You'll notice where it should be placed, whether it'll stay covered under your sleeves or clothing. Whether it's also fun to look at upside down (from your own view) and if it looks like spots or stains to others, in which case, the size or design should be changed. 6. Generally, don't put logo's of companies or movies down, nothing that is 'currently hip', no Chanel-logo, no Mercedes logo's, no random cars or vehicles, unless it is absolutely something you réálly wanted for a long time.

I love my tattoos. But I waited till I was almost 30, and really thought about what to get and where to get it. The important thing is to think it through and wait until your certain. It seems crazy to me that in many countries you just walk into a tattoo parlor in the middle of the night drunk and get a tattoo. Here the parlors close around 7 pm and you need an appointment. When you have to wait several weeks you know for sure you`re doing the right thing.
