I remember my trip to Phatthalung back in 2015. We drove from KL, Malaysia to Hatyai, Thailand (about 8 hours). Then drove from Hatyai to Phatthalung (about 2 hours). We stayed in Sri Pakpra Resort. My friends and I were the only foreigners at that resort. The hotel manager told us too that not many foreigners come to Phatthalung as there is nothing much to do 😅At this resort is where we can see the unique style of fishing - giant fish nets/rods. We took the same boat ride at this lake as well to see the lotus lake. It's really beautiful. I won't forget that roadtrip, I wish to go back again Phatthalung again!

I did this a year ago. it was incredible! I took the wooden boat too. They take you out on the lake and then take you to a location away from other tourists, stop the boat and the driver let’s you just meditate and take it all In (endless beauty of a lake filled with lotuses). Highly recommend, but keep in mind it’s seasonal and best to go early morning when the lotuses are just awakening and open up and the sun rising. Love Thailand and many of the people!

i had been to Thale Noi last January and the weather was blistering and scorching hot since i crossed the border from Malaysia less than 2 months to the MCO lockdown. you came at a correct time when the morning was cool, suitable for the blossoming of its iconic pink water lilies. anyhow, the lake was very interesting and i also spotted lots of birds like herons and water buffaloes. it would be scenic to drive across the lake using the bridge. another attraction to visit in Phatthalung is Napokae located along the road to the lake, overlooking the rice fields. i had some traditional coconut pancakes there. i had lunch at a local restaurant on the banks of Thale Noi where i ate a very spicy and sour gaeng som curry cooked with the stems of the water lilies harvested from that lake.

Always stop by Thale Noi when visiting my Grandma in Pa Payom. It's beautiful at sunrise! Just last year, we stopped by a restaurant towards Songkhla, perched on the hills overlooking the ocean called Nam Kieng Din. Every plate was outstanding - especially the Khai Pad Bai Lieng, which I can't get here in Sydney - Would definitely recommend the detour if you're spending time in the South!!
