If you're still looking for steamed cod in queenstown go to Cody's, they do fresh blue cod there too and it really hits different. Would also go for some of the spicy dishes there, real authentic chongqing food

Blue Cod - soooo good. Next time you are in the south of the South Island of NZ, go to a Fish and Chip shop and order Blue Cod and chips. And if its oyster season, make it a dozen Bluff oysters, as well. Battered blue cod is amazing

I love all the chinese dishes that I grew up with. The large blue steamed cod is out of this world! I always wanted to visit New Zealand. Their nature is so astounding and water are so fresh! All the way from Eastern Canada!

I've seen that fish in Chinese restaurants here in San Gabriel Valley, CA prepared in the same way. With the sauce it is the best on rice, along with the scallons of course! Prepared fresh.

Not all the rivers are icy , Queenstown has mountains , heading north they get warmer :). Are you hoimg to Marlborough? I used to catch blue cod up there. Its great to see adventure, family and food in one 😊

Next time you're here, you should try tramping. Our back country huts are something else again, I don't think there is anything comparable elsewhere. The huts all smell of candle wax and woodsmoke. And you can find some gourmet eats in the middle of nowhere, and great conversation. If you do get back, I can recommend Welcome Flat Huts just south of Fox Glacier, where you can soak in huge natural hot pools shadowed by Aoraki, and then cool off in a glacier-fed stream.

I had no idea blue cod was only found in NZ. We eat shiploads of it down here and it's pretty cheap so I just always assumed it was a common international thing.
