Mark, this video brings back good memories! Back in 1987, I lived in New Zealand for a year. My dad was helping New Zeland with their farming practices. I lived in the town of Lincoln. I ate crawfish there as a kid at Nims. I'm 46 now. To this day I think the crayfish there beats the lobsters here in the United States as far as taste. Great video!

Hi Mark being a kiwi born in the Tokomaru Bay / Gisborne area bought back so many memories! As a child and young boy seafood was normal.. Crayfish was plentiful and fish, kinas , mussels, white bait etc was plentiful… All free when you catch yourself. A normal weekend adventure with food rewards. Us Māoris and pakeha were always self sufficient! I’m so pleased and excited to see your expressions and descriptions of every bite! ^^ We had so much seafood if you wanted to dive, snorkel and fish to feed the family and friends… I feel NZ and totally agree with you Mark that we have the best seafood produce.. Sadly over time governments sold the farm these days!! But you still find the odd family business that hasn’t sold out to foreign countries!! But you show cased what was everywhere all around NZ thx Mark good video!! Enjoy the rest of your adventure guys 👏🏻🙏🏻👍

@@matthewchui1570 Indeed. You can get insanely good fish'n'chips wherever the produce is fresh and the chef knows their stuff. I have had amazing versions in the UK, Ireland, and Canada. I'm sure also in Portugal where they invented the stuff... though I've yet to hit the jackpot in that country. Likely because it's a pretty basic food and I am usually looking for something more flavoursome.

Kiwi here, just fyi for a bit of peace of mind, when they wash the Crayfish in fresh water, what they're actually doing is sedating the Crayfish, so when they're cooked it's not as brutal. Some people also put them in the freezer for a while. As much as I love eating Crayfish, I could never cook them fully conscious.

I grew up in New Zealand and had no idea Lobster/Crayfish was considered a delicacy/fancy food until I saw it on TV. I just always had it growing up since I lived next to the ocean, you could literally just go to the beach (I lived pretty close to a rocky beach) and there are a lot of different creatures, including Crayfish, Kina and occasionally Jellyfish or Stingray (I almost stepped on one as a kid lol). I never saw any Seals at my beach though since it was pretty small but we were always told not to touch them if we came across one.

@@jameslast3192 Yeah, there are defiantly similarity's for sure!
@jameslast31923 күн бұрын
@@exoticspeedefy7916 I guess that’s why ist so easy for us POMS to assimilate here. Where I live in the coromandel peninsula so it’s mountainous subtropical rain forest down to golden sandy beaches so it’s nothing like the uk here! But heaps of the country is indeed very similar. The climate, although some say is similar to the uk definitely not remotely similar, not up here anyway. NZ is very long from tip to toe so the weather varies drastically. I have no heating and no insulation and single glazing and do fine through winter, although admittedly some cold mornings for sure and most locals do indeed have at least a log burner for winter but it’s very liveable. You could never do that anywhere in the uk. We regularly get 16-18 degrees centigrade and completely deep blue sky’s throughout winter here. Like half the time. It’s amazing. No flying to Morocco for the sun, just wait a few days. We do of course lack all the history and architecture and British culture and arts, most of all though the humble pub. Most Brit’s miss that the most. There just aren’t many proper good pubs here. NONE anywhere near where I live and I can’t think of one that I’ve ever seen in the whole country that comes anywhere close. Also no scotch eggs and no Pasties! I miss those the most as I’m from Devon, the actual home of the humble pasty, no matter what our Cornish thieving cousins say!
