In this video we take a look at a variety of natural tinder's that are available to us from our woodlands. Some of them I harvested whilst making my way through to camp, and some I had packed in my rucksack which I carry on a regular basis. During the video we concentrate on a few types of fungi which are renowned for their tinder quality properties, barks, dried vegetation, pine sap and the different ignition sources that works best with the tinder's.

Another great and informative video Mark. A couple years ago I started into flint and steel. I didn't want to tear up a cotton t-shirt, so I used punk wood. Hopefully I can get a few videos out this coming week. Have a wonderful weekend. - Josh

Hi Josh, many thanks for watching. Glad you found it informative. Yeah, punk wood is really good. I sometimes use a magnifying glass with it too. The next time I make a batch of charred cloth I will mail you some over. Don't want you tearing up your clothes now. Look forward to your videos....... have a great weekend too. All the best, mark.

Yeah the magnifying glass is always worth carrying. Just a shame we don't get that much sun here. Thanks again for the view and the comment.

Many thanks FG. I'm not sure what make the ferro rod it is. I bought it off EBay a couple of years ago. It's 6'' x1/2", and if I can remember right I think I paid about 15 pounds for it. I was having a nose around on EBay the other day and I noticed that there were a few for sale that seemed the same. Some come with lanyard holes pre-drilled and that was the rod I got. In fact the hole has come in handy. Especially after putting that orange loop on it. It makes it easier to find now if I drop it or put it down somewhere. Hope this helps... Have a great weekend FG, all the best Mark.

Hi Chris, hope you are keeping well too. I tend to go to near Cannock or a private woods in Wales where I work. It is bigger and more secluded than the woods near home. Good to hear from you. Take care and all the best, Mark x
