I've been playing golf on and off for the last 15 years. I've never had a lesson and have always been inconsistent due to dipping in and out of the game but about a year ago I decided to start taking it more seriously and it has become my passion. I started watching your golf videos and over the last year I have gone from not having a handicap to now having a handicap of 14. I even joined my work golf society and recently won my first tournament. I never had the confidence to play with other people before this as I never thought I was good enough and got embarrassed when people watched me hit bad shots. I would really like to thank You, Coach and Dan for all your tips, advice and videos as it has enabled me to enjoy the world of golf like never before. Of course there is still room for improvement in my game. I hit the odd thin shot and am prone to slicing my driver every now and then but I only every wanted to play a round of golf where most of my shots went in the air and in the general direction I was aiming for. Thanks to you guys (and a lot of practice 😀) I generally do this now and sometimes even better. Keep up the good work guys 👍

Truly great stuff. What you are describing is PLAYING golf. Absolutely. My struggles, as I would think with most golfers, had been getting beyond the basics of a swing. Most people don’t know where speed/power comes from and therefore are not able to even achieve the basic ideas of golf let alone playing the game. I did a small poll and asked a bunch of amateur golfers where they think speed/power comes from and all of them (from beginners to people who have played 40 years) said speed/power comes from the shoulders. They will struggle trying to make the basic swing forever and not ever get to the best part of the game, which you so excellently described in this video. I find it fascinating. Great video!

Ive watched (and thoroughly enjoyed/learnt) my fair share of you and the teams vids - but this was for me at least the most timely. Working over the past few months on strike consistency and building up has improved my results and confidence more than years of trying to repeat a ‘beautiful’ swing. What this video does is reassure and inspire me to keep on this as a the foundation of reaching my potential. LOVE IT, thank you.

Now THAT'S a video.... everyone benefits from this .. even players that DO these things (us lower hcp-ers) ... such reminder is needed. Specially now when the season is coming to an end and many swing inside for "swing practice" only/mostly. LOVED this to remind me on WORKING this winter... not just s-wing it ;) Cheers guys ....

Probably the best golf video I have seen since I started watching youtube videos. You showed me what I was doing wrong in my back swing that has been causing my shots to go so high. I suffer from pain in every joint in my body but love golf so I play anyway, It hurts less to cup my right wrist in my backswing so when I come to impact I am adding more loft. I will have to work on getting my wrist more flat by working through the pain a bit. My 7 iron shot launch like a sand wedge (goes 165 to 170 in the air) but in wind it can cause it to come up short. I also need to do what Mark said and have my normal swing be more 3/4 for more consistency. Strike is king Mark! -- coach Lockey 2019 Great quote!

Great video mark, as a golfer of sub standard myself when your at the driving range practicing, because of the cost of x amount of money it cost for a bucket of balls, nobody practices the shots you all have described we all want the perfect shot where you rip it down the middle, because you feel your wasting your money
@walleyewannabe5 жыл бұрын
Exactly bro... you tube pro's don't realize that for us regulars to practice it cost money...what we practice is the best possible way to strike the ball with a sub-standard swing
@vegaspony3 жыл бұрын
I understand the sentiment but I think the point is almost that going to the range and practicing nothing but 'perfect swing' is more of a waste of money. If you want to practice swinging, fine, but if you're trying to practice golf wouldn't it make sense to practice the sorts of skills you need in any given round of golf? Distance, lie, obstacles, hazards, wind, etc. are different on every shot so how often are conditions are such that you'll be using your stock range swing with no adjustment? I think part of the argument is that practicing those sorts of things is what builds the skills needed to improve that stock shot in the end anyway.
@paulstanando19755 жыл бұрын
I used to be that person at a range that tried to hit the perfect full shot with every club, but no more, I now try different shots, i like to play a course in my mind that i know well but then play it as if there is different win conditions etc. Makes range time a lot more fun and builds up a wider range of shots that i can play.👍

I love this chaps. A couple of years ago I couldn’t chip a ball from 5-10 yards off the green, for months I played with different swings, paths, aoa, club face control, lies blah blah. Was so frustrating, but then you see patterns, what works for you and what doesn’t. Now I have a massive arsenal of chip shots, but most importantly take those ideas when using your other clubs with full swings and hey guess what! You can play proper golf on the course. Also it’s free to practice on the chipping green. Just start with little swings, simples 😀😀

Another excellent video Mark! Would you fade/draw a ball purely by adjusting the club face to path angle ?
@Golfing-AddiCt5 жыл бұрын
Yep loved this Mark, I've come to realise that playing all of the inventive shots, the low punch slice with a 7 iron, the high drawing 8iron are the shots that get me out of the proverbial shid and keep the round going... Damage limitation shots... Yes, the nice smooth 6iron that comes upto a metre away from the pin will be the shot that produces chances to score the birdie or par, but the inventive and sometimes wildly unorthodox shots are the ones that are a lot of the times the best shots you play out on the course.

As much as I agree with the need to practice functional many lower standard golfers don’t have a “stock” shot like you have a 155y 7iron. Until they have their base line it’s harder to practice variation no?
@MarkCrossfield5 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. If you want to play golf so move away from the range you need variation 👍👍 But I also agree finding a level of stock is also very important.
@robvoase5 жыл бұрын
I think this is a great point. I play off 10 and struggle with this - a feeling of a solid baseline swing and strike that I'm comfortable with, that's replicable before I try and shape or try different hand positions. It's enough to think about just trying to strike the ball!

5 handicap. Working on not coming so far from the inside. Find myself hitting 10 yard draws with my good strikes but too many pushes and overdraws. Overall I scrape it around pretty well but trying to get a bit more neutral with my path.

Doing things 'wrong' physically is by far the most problematic part of my golfing. When getting tired, and also often when not tired, my tendency to bend or sway towards target absolutely kills my back, and in turn just kills my golfshots. After doing it for years, i just can't seem to shake that habit. I focus on it, and it helps for a while. Then i move focus elsewhere, trying to shape shots etc and get in trouble right away and it all starts again. Very frustrating, and as we get older, starting to actually take too big a toll.

@adambellefeuille65335 жыл бұрын
At the range I play a little game. I pick a club and pick a pin, and can't move on to the next pin until I hit it in line with the pin. It has helped me to not focus on the perfect swing, but focus on the result. Doesn't matter how my swing looks as long as I hit it where I intended it to go!

Strike is mostly fine but club face control is really what I need to learn right now. I tend to have it a bit too open and present a lot of loft. I will play around with the club face and see what comes out on the other end.

Why have we not seen roll and bulge on an iron or have we?
@MarkCrossfield5 жыл бұрын
Because it’s not need. It’s is related to COG
@robertb27445 жыл бұрын
Cog is much closer to the face on an iron which causes the ball to curve less than say a driver, which is much further from the face. It has to do with gear effect.
@motodiaries8204 Жыл бұрын
Strike is a really good reason I play blades even though I'm about a 10 handicap player. You feel every single strike almost to the millimeter and you get very different results from every kind of strike. You will never strike a ball without knowing where you've struck it and what that will do to your shot. Its improved my strike enormously to play with these clubs.
@colinboxall26925 жыл бұрын
Great approach - challenge (and rightly so) the typical instruction bible. Ok Mark, here’s a challenge: I have no repeatable swing. I hit the ball low centre most times but way too close the the heel nowadays. I always practice the take away and even my practice swing is only the take away. I need to change. I am also trying to get the follow through using only through rotation of the body as I am quite handsy. My driver is so inconsistent. Hitting some stunning shots but some real horrors ! So inconsistent driving me mad.

@DomBun285 жыл бұрын
What problem does this cause at impact? What impact condition will starting “from the ground up” cause?
@garthly5 жыл бұрын
Thing is, these bad habits were what we were taught years ago. The asst pro at my club pulled me aside whenI started and said: make sure the club face is vertical when pointing parallel backwards and forwards. All we got was advice on positions. I remember saying to the pro, it doesn’t seem to go as far as it did. He lined me up and looked at all the positions and said: I don’t know what the problem is, it looks okay. It was the blind leading the blind. I never had a lesson on playing round the green so I went out regularly and fooled around with my sand wedge, slicing and hooking it like a table tennis bat, to control run out etc. the short game is still the best part of my game.
@justinstephenson93605 жыл бұрын
Chasing the perfect swing is a short cut to non-functional golf. It is amazing how much easier golf is when your second shot at a par 4 or 5 is from the fairway (or in coach's case...a fairway)
