Mr. Driscoll nailed the Ahab I know on every point. It was freaky. I had never heard a sermon about Ahab. They are often driven by a Jezebel (work, family, spiritual. financial life) Jezebel can be a family member, a boss, etc. Ahabs are passive and unaccountable, which spells disaster for their families. It's like they never have to grow up and face any reality or consequences for their evil because, after all, it was passivity.

I am not a Jezebel. I have chosen Ahab males as partners "nice guys nerds" who betrayed me for aggressively sexual ex females who were obsessively competitive with me. They were domineering females, who used flattery and lust, while I don't flirt and I don't entertain weakness of character and I don't give empty flattery. Very emotional men who wanted me to be their mothers who assumed that gifting me things would stop me from remembering glaring issues that needed THEIR attention. They let everyone into our relationship. I thought I was doing something good by not choosing blatantly rude men but Weak men are even worse, it seems.

Just because a man is an Ahab, does not mean his wife is a Jezebel. In my experience, women or men, that flatter or tell my husband what he wants to hear, end up controlling him AND how he treats me and our children. But that is NOT myself. Even though, I long for his leadership, I will not step into his role. I’ve seen this happen too many times with other couples. It’s not of the Lord, and it never ends well.

This is a great sermon but I’m having a bit of an issue withy the assumption that an Ahab is typically married to a Jezebel. Ahabs, I contend, might also just as frequently be married to an Elijah because the covert narcissist Ahab disguised himself at the onset of the relationship. “Elijah” believed that Ahab just needed encouragement, maturity, etc

I would like to add this (mid message). I doubt in the Garden of Eden that the costly 'Take a bite' was the first encounter between Eve and the tricky possessed reptile. I'm sure they 'danced' before, so she was charmed and thought nothing of this also apparently verbal creature. Where oh where was Adam while this was developing? Don't you guess she would have mentioned 'the reptile there speaks to me blah blah blah. It seems odd to just not be frightened AND to also trust a speaking creature on the first meet and greet. Then do as the lowly creature suggests.

It doesn't make sense to me that a sense of victimhood is the Ahab spirit. It seems more Jezebel to me. If you are passive and avoid confrontation, then you're likely to accept blame and not fight back. People who see themselves as victims give themselves an excuse to fight. If you look around our society, the people protesting and looting and assaulting people and committing vandalism and such are always excusing it by claiming they deserve to do that because they've been victimized.

Can a husband has some of both and a wife have some of both?
@tauno4280 Жыл бұрын
Very interesting preach overall but @ 14:20 you said "and for you single men, hear me in this, and let me put the father hat on. If you meet a gal and she's just really good in bed, so you sort of overlook everything else, that is not your wife, that is your witch." Not sure what you mean by "in bed" but I've always taken that to mean the act of sex. The warning in this passage seems to centre around overlooking concerning traits outside of the sexual pleasure the woman brings. Shouldn't you be saying to these single men that they shouldn't be in bed with prospective women at all? Perhaps you could say: "...If you meet a gal and she's just sexually attractive, so you sort of overlook...". The way you worded it seems ambiguous as to the sin of premarital sex in the first place.
@bufficliff8978 Жыл бұрын
His stance is not ambiguous. He frequently tells men and women to break up if they're having sex. His topic here is about the Ahab spirit, so a foolish, weak man without self control. Such a man wouldn't wait to get into bed with a woman who was weaponizing sexuality. He's not talking to men who haven't slept with the girl yet. He's talking to the men who have slept with the girl and spend their time trying to validate their choice. Him speaking to the men who are already sleeping with the woman also encapsulates the men who haven't yet but wanted to sleep with the woman. Driscoll telling men who've slept with her that she's a witch simultaneously tells men who haven't slept with her that she's a witch. However since the men who've had enough self control to not sleep with her aren't the topic this week it's even further fitting that he's speaking directly to the weaker men. Topic: passive men Speaking to: passive men If you're a frequent watcher then you know how often Driscoll hammers about not having sex before marriage, how damaging it is, and how foolish it is. If you're relatively new or very new then welcome! Driscoll is almost always blunt.
@tauno4280 Жыл бұрын
@@bufficliff8978 Oh okay, thanks for that context. It is definitely reassuring and makes sense as far as the audiences he is speaking to. I suppose it's to be noted that he actually speaks to men that have already slept with their girlfriend. These listeners/church goers are seeking to follow God's will and mark is acknowledging that's where some of these guys are at. He is bold and blunt and I suppose I'm used to a speaker that adds in a qualifier for the sake of that preach taken in isolation from other preaches. But again, i think it is commendable and rare that he speaks to men in the audience that have already had sex with their past or current girlfriends. It's just a reality for these people.. I haven't seen a ton of teaching from Mark over the years but my mind goes to the famous soundbite/clip many people define Mark by. The "who in the hell do you think you are!" clip with the most views has no context and many have never bothered to actually watch the entire message, not to mention follow the sermon series. Seeing that years ago, I was curious about the clip and actually sought out context and in doing that, realised it was called for. It was also a rebuke that many evangelical speakers will never do, or certainly not so direct and forceful. And when he says there are some in the congregation who fit the bill of an emotionally abusive boyfriend/husband, I one hundred percent agree given the size of the church and the large proportion of those who are new to the faith and have perhaps less Christian formation (though not exclusively that demographic as plenty of "life long" Christians behave in this way. Anyway, all that rambling to say, I appreciate the context and thank you for filling me in. A side note too that I appreciate Mark preaches the reality of the demonic in our world today. And he preaches how to recognise and how to address and fight back. Again, many contemporary "bigger name" evangelical preachers may not speak much, if anything, about the reality and influence of the demonic upon believers today. They may talk about the interaction Jesus had with them in his ministry but as far as practical teaching, may be limited. Anyway, God bless and protect Mark as he delivers these words. Thanks again for filling me in.
