It’s been a while since I was this confident that a particular segment of cards has potential to see prices explode.
Bowman Chrome autos reign supreme in baseball.
But if I had $100,000 to invest, there’s a different sleeping giant that I’d be putting ALL of my money into.

It's because the pumpers, flippers and pelican case bro "investors" have sunk their teeth into football and basketball and drive up the prices. Baseball and Hockey have a stronger base of pure collectors.

I agree that RPA has the best chance of being unique amongst card and memorabilia collectors. I’d love to see Fanatics build upon the MLB Debut Patch idea. Principles… must be hand signed, no sticker autos. Patch must be game worn. Patch must be game/accomplishment specific…example: “this patch was worn by this player on this date when the player accomplished this…”. Finally visual documentation is critical. Just like the debut patch or Brady baseball card…photo match or video proof of the player wearing/signing the card. Maybe a QR code on the card that links the owner to that documentation. Fanatics could sweeten the deal by having some cards act as a ticket for an event/game/virtual or in-person meeting with the athlete. Crazy ideas 😂… but would be incredible for the fan/collectors. It all starts with making products that bring the collector closer to the game and the athlete. The RPA is where this begins in my humble opinion.

Also, don’t sleep on RPAs in obscure sports. I have three RPAs from WWE (Two of Austin Theory’s from 2020 Topps Fully Loaded and a Bron Breakker 2022 Panini Immaculate RPA) and if either of them reach their potential, I have one of their best Rookie cards.

No Theorys have sold recently. Plenty of the other more known stars. I haven’t tried selling mine yet. I’m holding as I feel there’s going to be a youth renewal in WWE over the next decade and Theory could be part of it. Also, I think Theory was the only young Rookie in 2020 Fully Loaded. (You had other 30+ year-old NXT talent in the set, like your Ciampas and Garganos - Theory was 23 when Fully Loaded came out). As a set in isolation, the singles are cool (from a collecting, not investment perspective). Last year, I got a present for the son of one of my best friends. (We’re friends bonding over soccer & WWE). This present was a Kofi Kingston auto mat relic /10 (the relic is from ‘Kofimania’) which cost me about $25. Friend & son use it as a way to bond over WWE.

Great video T-Pott. Love Dynasty, these cards strike the ultimate balance between all 4 of the types of hobbyists.(I feel that flippers would struggle the hardest dealing with Dynasty as I doubt they would be able to consistently acquire these for 60-70% of comps) I own 3 (a 2022 George Springer, a 2020 Tatis Jr and a 2019 Francisco Lindor). If I had to start parting out my collection, these would be the last cards I would consider parting with because of how much attachment I have to them from as a collector.

Game used patches or nothing for me. Spending millions on a logo patch of a player worn jersey patch seems silly to me. Topps dynasty RPA are actually game worn. Great video T Pot. Game used patch autos, not just the rookies, especially with the mlb holograms on them where you can lookup up the patch details to what game it is, (Topps Diamond Icons, dynasty, some other high end sets will occasionally have mlb authenticated patches) are the perfect cards to me.

One major benefit Topps has over Panini is the MLB authentication stickers, which allow you to search exactly what game that patch was worn in. Right now, we’ve only seen those stickers on Inception and a few other products, but if they added it to Topps Dynasty, that could really skyrocket the prices of the patch autos. And if Topps educations collectors more on what they are.

I agree with you T-Pot. I don't think the Dynasty will out perform the Bowman's First in the next few years just because of the major following already established, but maybe years down the road. I do prefer the Dynasty personally they are gorgeous and much more fun. I also think the Topps Now Cards putting relics in the cards for big moments like a piece of each base for a players call up game or when they do something amazing is a MAJOR sleeper. Great video!

I 1000% agree. One other card you didn't mention that I think has the same or more potential than Dynasty are the Reverence RPAs from flagship Topps. They are such rare pulls that many collectors don't even know they exist and for each player there are only 16 cards (/10, /5, /1) and that's it. As an example, I picked up the 2019 Tatis 1/1 Reverence card a few months ago for $1500. I feel like that should be at least 10x that when compared to his other autos and Bowman 1sts.

They can only hype what they have access to. A lot of those 1/1 patch RPA's end up locked in collections. The hype crowd depends on transactions. When these things hit the market one time and, then, disappear into a PC for years, they cannot pump the market with transactions. With all the top Chrome autos hitting the market, endlessly, they can hype all the time.

I can make one argument for and against your argument for an undervalued baseball card market. The against market, is that baseball in terms of popularity has been on a 40-year slide. I was thrilled that the DBacks made it to the World Series last year, but it was the lowest rated WS ever. The "for" argument though is that current popularity and true vintage appeal do not match. Dada-ism, abstract painting, and modernism fell out before World War II started, but the master works of Picasso and Dali would sell for more than ever today! Collecting becomes its own thing - it really is amazing that a Jalen Suggs RPA is worth more than a Corey Seager RPA.

Interesting analysis as always. The logic makes sense. But just want to provide another example to consider along with Baseball, and that is hockey cards. The hockey market covets Young Guns rookies and SP Authentic Future Watch autos over everything else, that is like their 1st Bowman / Topps Chrome equivalent in Baseball. Semi-caveat is there is an RPA version of the Future Watch cards and people do like those specifically. Hockey has The Cup which is a high end set with RPAs but I don't see it talked about as much in general compared to everyone losing their mind for Young Guns. So this can be taken one of two ways: 1) The hockey market has shown RPAs are not the main thing people want, the classic Young Guns and Future Watch cards are, and this is just the way it is, or 2) Hockey has the same environment that baseball does in the video analysis where people have not realized RPAs are more premium and "valuable" compared to what prices are currently. Obviously the missing element from the video is Upper Deck is floating out there on their own and won't have the same market flood of Panini collectors going over to Fanatics/Topps in a few years that are used to high end RPAs.

Baseball is fundamentally different since the Bowman 1st come out so much earlier than their other cards. Collector's are always going to prefer the "true 1st appearance" of the player so to speak. Yeah, this ain't hitting. Bowman 1sts are the better investment. There is a reason the RPAs don't do well in baseball. The demand isn't going to change as long as Bowman 1sts exist. Nice try but you would be wasting 100k. Terrible idea.

T-Pot, T-Pot, T-Pot....(Face Palm) There is NO WAY RPA's will outshine Bowman 1st Auto's... For example, the tier of product (Dynasty) outweighs a Bowman product by default (Price of product to be specific)...HOWEVER, Bowman 1st autos have always stood out for a lot of big names (J-Rod, Dominguez, Elly etc.) If both bowman products & Topps Dynasty were priced the same, we may have a debate, but in reality....Dynasty is a Top Tier product that will call for top dollar (depending on the player), Bowman 1st Autos will remain consistently expensive to acquire. And Bowman 1st is the foundation for anyone beginning to collect a certain player.

What I am talking about is pricing out existing RPAs against existing Bowman Chrome autos. Not the two in general, but if you were - for example - to buy an Acuna Dynasty RPA or buy a BCA for the same price. I believe the Dynasty RPA has much greater potential in the coming 1-3 years than the BCA because BCAs are already priced high. RPAs are incredibly cheap, when compared to BCAs (still expensive, and out of my budget).
@adamedgexxx
@adamedgexxx 4 ай бұрын
@@t-pott4504 so all of Acunas dynasty rpas are /10 or less. So you’re saying % wise the dynasty rpa has more room to increase than 1st BCAs? That could be true for base and refractor autos however I think once you get to like a true blue 1st bca if acunas cards are increasing the BCA /150 and fewer will increase at a higher percentage due to the premium places on 1st BCAs through history of the hobby. Let me say that I love dynasty and I actually think the 2nd year on dynasty patch autos hold very good value compared to other non rookie patch autos.
Yep..the Junk Slab Era is here and this data proves it☠️⚰️
