So that OpenAI's products don't interfere with the American Establishment's plans. American policymakers are terrified that A.I. might bring about world peace and they are determined to prevent that from happening.

Taxes of any kind penalize behavior. Tariffs tax and penalize the consumption of imported goods. Income taxes penalize domestic production. Which are Americans better off discouraging, the consumption of imported goods or American production?

You have a point, but you also over-simplified the question. For example, I could go on to ask: income taxes or inheritance taxes? One taxes remunerative work, the other taxes heirs of those who did such work.

@@kreek22respectfully, I disagree. As I said, intentionally or not, taxes discourage behavior. Estate taxes discourage the accumulation & concentration of great wealth. Why work to accumulate great wealth to pass on to your heirs if the majority of it will be confiscated by the Government thru Estate taxation?
@kreek22

@@lakeguy65616 I've known a number of rich guys for whom acquiring wealth was mostly an end in itself, an old habit, a dependable ego booster, a competition among the rich. There are others, including some ultra-rich, whom I do not know, who realize that the only sensible purposes of great wealth are power or philanthropy. Besides, taxation is a matter of degree, begging the question of how much a given level of taxation discourages the behavior at which it's directed. A 10% estate tax would inflict very little discouragement even upon those with the mere intention of passing it to their heirs. At 50% things are very different.

Problem is, other countries will adapt and avoid paying tariffs.

@@paulscooter4076 I think you are unclear on what a tariff is and who pays it. Consumers pay tariffs on imported goods. Countries don't pay tariffs.

Yeah we should have public authorities control AI because they’ve done such a great job at everything else.

They screw up almost everything. However, the list of things they haven't screwed up is very short and very important: no nuclear or biological wars.

Historically, the West has utilized new technologies for military or imperialistic purposes before finding broader applications. The West primarily used gunpowder to create weapons of war, such as cannons and firearms, allowing Western powers to expand their military capabilities and dominate other regions through conquest and colonization of the Americas, Africa, and Asia. The steam engine was instrumental in expanding colonial empires, as steam-powered ships facilitated easier transportation of goods and troops, enabling Western powers to exploit resources and establish control over distant territories. The first use of nuclear technology was dropping atomic bombs on the civilians in the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. The same pattern will emerge with AI. The CHIPS Act, high-end chips, and EUV sanctions imply that the US is already working on the weaponization of AI. Following its historical pattern, China will mainly use AI for commercial and peaceful purposes. Papermaking revolutionized communication, education, and record-keeping, spreading knowledge and culture. Gunpowder was used for fireworks. The compass was adapted for navigational purposes, allowing for more accurate sea travel and exploration. Printing facilitated the dissemination of information, literature, and art, contributing to cultural exchange and education. Porcelain was highly prized domestically and internationally as a luxury item and a symbol of Chinese craftsmanship. Silk was one of the most valuable commodities traded along the Silk Road and played a significant role in China's economy and diplomacy.

The only option is Dfinity's ICP offering on chain AI where enterprises can control specifically what Information is fed to these AI's and votes can be made by stakeholders what changes are made. Otherwise these big enterprises will filter all open source data in these LLM's which can work counterproductive. We need AI's in finance that only know finance. Ai in science should only know science. Ai in the medical field should only know medical information
