I want more sustainable energy. I also want the US to buy local before propping up Iran or Venezuela. Gotta be practical about the short-term while preparing for the long-term.
@cennamo66
@cennamo66 2 жыл бұрын
Reasonable opinion. The problem is that we have not been preparing ourselves for the "long term". By ignoring Global Warming for 40 years and not trying to decrease the burning of fossil fuels we are now in a situation where an ecologic catastrophe is almost for sure unavoidable.
@almac9203
@almac9203 2 жыл бұрын
@@cennamo66 forget that garbage. Fake face fake. Let's get the coal and nuclear and wean ourselves off dependency on foreign energy and this applies to Europe and America. Nothing wrong with renewable energy but it has to be cost competitive. No more sacrificing economic security for this green nonsense.
@cennamo66
@cennamo66 2 жыл бұрын
@@almac9203 science is not garbage. Global warming is an ecological catastrophe. Coal is the worst offender. If the earth is destroyed there is going no economy. We need to develop clean energy. We wasted 40 years. We cannot afford to lose any more time.
@almac9203
@almac9203 2 жыл бұрын
@@cennamo66 science can be manipulated and also plain wrong. You can record data and that can be objective if we agree on the methodology however modeling is not objective and can be wildly inaccurate. The model can predict what will happen with a 0.5c degree increase or a 7 degree increase but we simply have no idea what is going to happen and so called scientists pluck these implausible models out of their ass. The same scientist that we are assuming are correct warned about global cooling in the 1970s so I would take their pronouncements with a grain of salt. There have been numerous scientists that said their dissenting views have been silenced. Even the former head of Greenpeace disagrees with the alarmist propaganda. I want people to compare the actual global warming with the models and you will see the models are very alarmist. I am all for alternatives for existing sources of power but let's develop something truly revolutionary. We should be developing sources of energy that will transform people's lives for the better not make us worse off. Nikola Tesla proposed almost free abundant energy and that is what we should be researching not expensive energy. Put your thinking cap on and solve the problems not bring down people's standard of living. Green movement seeks to tax current energy or subsidies for green energy instead of introducing cheaper abundant energy. Scientists need to stop wasting their energy on their stupid modeling and develop the energy of tommorrow that will bring the world out of poverty. In my country the green movement has done nothing for people except drain people's wallet and has done nothing for the environment. My country spends billions on green credits when those billions could be spent on health and education. I am actually left leaning on most issues but I absolutely hate the global warming nonsense with an absolute passion. Show me the cheap abundant energy that will replace oil and gas and you will convert the entire planet!
@cennamo66
@cennamo66 2 жыл бұрын
@@almac9203 I am sorry but the science is clear and has been settled more than 40 years ago. Global warming is a fact, 99-100% of climate scientists agree and they know more than you or I do. I am not a climate scientist, but I have a scientific background and the basic science is simple and obviously true. If anything the prediction on Global Warming have been too conservative. Burying our head in the sand will not change the reality that the earth is warming.

The thing about fossil fuel is that nobody wants to over produce it (because its not profitable), oil companies are using this war to get more permits but not necessary increasing the production of oil. The fossil fuel industry have a lot of lands already unused.

You didn't account for when is the end of the pandemic? What happens if say.. China.. starts mass lockdowns due to 0 covid policy? Then demand falls off a cliff again and if the world is producing too much they will have to cut back again just to stay in business. Also, we are walking into a recession. Same thing applies.. demand will fall. All oil companies took the worst hit they've ever taken in 2020. An over-abundance of caution is warranted here. Demand destruction will eventually fix everything and everybody sane knows that.

I see so many people on here talking about converting to electric vehicles. It’s going to take years to build enough cars for the transition. We have over 300 million cars in the US alone. The electrical grid Hass to be doubled in order to supply all of those needed EV’s. Like it or not folks this is going to take time and we are going to be burning oil until then. Yes we need to cut back on our consumption until we get there. But that too is going to take some time.

SPECIFICALLY SILVER BULLION is now over 50% below its two time high of $50.00 an ounce and global experts and geologist point out that there is a silver deficit !!!! It is ONLY low because for the time being ; it is being suppressed by the “ paper “ market , but this can’t go on forever !!! Go look at two days ago !!! Who would in their wildest dreams predict a nickel market squeeze ???? Think about that . AND - a fact that central banks and governments are stockpiling gold bullion as we speak !!!! WHY ? If the price of fossil fuels is being artificially jacked up due to political reasons, then that's not a free market. A free market is one where buyers and sellers get to determine the price themselves without coercion.

While that seems like logic.. you didn't seem to account for the immediate necessity for battery materials that do not currently exist. The materials that do currently exist we do not produce. The immediate effects will be higher prices for 'sustainable' energy meaning oil prices actually don't look so bad. Then you add the fact that you are about to turn China into the next Saudi Arabia except... you suppose they will give us the same petro dollar deal for lithium, cobalt, nickel, graphite, etc? I'm going to say no is the safe assumption there.

Way to miss the point. Renewables will prevail, but it will take a generation or two. Governor’s or other politicians setting deadlines based on whim doesn’t change the monumental amount of effort required. The US alone is a massive chunk of land. Creating a coast to coast national power grid alone would take decades and what serious planning has begun if any? What planning has started for a national replacement of oil/gas heating for existing homes of which there are tens of millions? And this is just the US - an advanced nation with resources to throw at it that the majority of nations lack. Realistic assessments produce realistic and productive solutions. And you can blame every generation since the 1800s for what effects they’ve all had on the climate, including your own.

Unleash American energy. Go big across the board. Oil, Gas, Solar, Wind, Hydro and whatever else is viable. The most important thing is that it’s produced in America. Stop transferring wealth offshore. Let the market decide which energy wins. Once you get to energy independence then you can get picky on what type you want to focus on going forward...

Zell has lost it. And Westin is such a lame interviewer by just letting guests spout nonsense and giving them softball questions. There is plenty of unused capacity and drilling permits here in the US. The price of gasoline hasn't skyrocket because Keystone was cancelled. The US oils have little to no incentive to increase production, just like the Saudis and everyone else. If they pump more, the price will go down. Instead of pumping more, they're doing buy backs and increasing dividends. As an investor in energy, I'm ok with that. The market will take care of itself in the long run. Event though near term pain, increase oil prices will help accelerate the transition to renewables. The oil majors and producing countries would be better off focusing on price stability instead of short term profits. In the end, it will just cause demand destruction.
