I think some are misunderstanding what it means to start from scratch. It means everything came to you from your own ideas and energy. Was his founding loan offered to him or did he ask for it? Did the government beg him to make contracts or did he ask and then receive? No man does anything alone. His workers did much of the labor. His various partners and creditors gave him the ability to expand his operations. But he created and exploited his opportunities and that is the point to take away from this.

We all know how postwar Nigeria embarked on a federal reparation spending spree where artificial business oligarchs were created in the north and west excluding completely the easterners. The goal was to help non- eastern people catch up to the business levels of the easterners for fear that the easterners should never dominate the economic sector of the country. Even though it was done as such, the easterners due to their natural gifts for business have been able over the years to still bounce back in their way from scratch and all over the world where an easterner is found. That’s called Biafra power!!!

In an era of free markets and stiff competition, Dangote is a silver lining for Nigerians and Africa as a whole. We need to learn from him, that hardwork pays off, commitment and dedication pays off.
