Jun.30 -- Orlando Bravo is embracing all things post-pandemic: flexible work arrangements, less travel and deal-making by Zoom. It's a calculated bet to maintain the competitive edge that has turned his firm, Thoma Bravo, into one of the top performers in private equity. In this interview, the firm's billionaire co-founder and managing partner discusses his investing philosophy, demand for software, the challenges of raising capital and SPACs. He spoke exclusively to Erik Schatzker on Bloomberg's Front Row.

This interview to me is evidence that the most successful people in the world are clear thinkers and great communicators. I also loved his story of how tennis shaped him (can relate as a tennis player myself).

@@jimj2683Larry Ellison, Oprah Winfrey, George Soros, Palmer Luckey, Howard Schultz…need more examples of billionaires that came from nothing? Silicon Valley is also full of immigrants from extremely poor backgrounds that founded unicorns…. Stop telling yourself that the only reason you are not successful is that you were not born in a wealthy family and start putting in the work!

Orlando's biggest advantage over the other Silicon Valley venture capitalists is that he believes in fundamentals. That's what wins in the long run.

He adds negative value to companies, uses debt to buy great companies then guts them via outsourcing all R&D, I following historic entrepreneurs like Kazuo Inamori who founded Kyocera in Japan and was CEO of Japanese airlines, he was also a Shinto Priest. He said everything he did was to add benefit to the world to also refine his own virtues and soul he focused on adding value, innovation and quality to other's lives Bravo who's methods I have studied to is does the opposite, he is coming from the lose/won perspective that to earn money he has to undermine the quality of other's lives, Anaplan and many other companies he bought with debt, have lost their innovative edges and employees wages and benefits are flatlined, fires many. This is not a business model I follow or am inspired by. Servant Leadership like Inamori and 1000's of others do is the one I respect.

This Orlando Bravo is a successful and fascinating business man, but all of these softball questions made this interview more like a public relations piece. This is the same reason why so many autobiography business books are worthless since the author just wants to promote themselves as being a great guy. The interviewer should have researched specific deals, both successful and unsuccessful, this guy has done. Nothing was learned from this interview.
