Its crazy that their condo only costed $71k but they can rent it out for $1600/month. In Toronto, a condo is probably going to be minimum $500k for a 1 bedroom, and rent on a 1 bedroom condo is about $2000/month +

FIRE is great, but do not destroy your health with cheap low-nutrition meals. Spend slightly more on healthy meals, so you don't lose your heath. What is the point of wealth without health?

As a MTG player I joke about this because I met a guy who claimed to be a former drug dealer and I asked him how much it costs Drug Addicts to buy drugs and it was significantly less than I was spending on Magic the Gathering as a nerd lo.

I'd admire their tenacity to stay frugal and retire early. But there's some things that aren't addressed, such as... health insurance and health care costs? Do they plan on having kids at some point? This 1 van isn't going to last forever. So what happens when the time comes to buy a new (or used) car?

They have half million invested and few other assets like house that product cashflow and works a bit to, by not touching the dividends they get from investment. This couple is so far ahead of others in their 30s in term of financial stability.

4% rule accounts for inflation. insurance you will probably have to pay out of those 4%. so make your investment goal such that 4% of it covers all that you need to live and some more!

@@joshovermyer a paid off home and rental has to be at least $800K total? $800K is 2 of them for 10 years at $40K starting salary in addition to have an investment net egg of $500K. That is $1.3MM in 7 years (they are 29) between them NOT including any other expenses. I would like to believe them, but honestly I think lots of things are either fabricated by them or they are hiding their true source of wealth. Call me skeptical but I like to find someone who can replicate their success according to what they say, my guess is probably they inherited the wealth.

@@bryantkobe23 why does it "has to be at least 800k"? It was less than half that when they purchased, (both in cash by the way)

@@joshovermyer ok you mean each is only $200K? Call me cynical but I have a hard time believing them... you also need to factor they had the money eg at least $400K in cash when they purchased it several years ago, it simply doesn't add up, esp when they first bought the condo
