There are photos of Himmler after his death. If you’ve ever seen anyone beaten to death the face is usually badly damaged. It’s possible I suppose that he could have been beaten in the abdomen and ruptured a spleen, liver etc. In that case he would have bled out and the copious amount of free blood in the abdomen would be obvious on postmortem.

@@Chiller01 The other alternative is damage to the occipital region of the skull. Such damage would be harder to see, wouldn't show up on the death mask, and wouldn't result in copious amounts of unexplained blood. It *would* show up on x-rays, but as said, those were not released.

Dr. Felton, this whole series is brilliantly done. As you may remember from previous episodes, I worked in federal law enforcement for over 20 years and have been commenting on my own theory much based on your research as well as others, and i must commend you on you meticulous research. You follow the very logical and thorough investigative processes that a well trained and experienced law enforcement officer would employ. In prior episodes I have laid down my theory, and we are in agreement on a great many threads. I do believe it was Himmler who died in that front parlor. I do not believe it was suicide, which goes against Himmler's very core nature, but rather believe he was eliminated. Your additional clue that the examining Dentist, who's report was extremely thorough, does not mention the presence of any glass remains from the cyanide capsule, is very significant. Added with what the doctor, who was with him at time of death, stated he swabbed out his mouth and gave mouth to mouth resuscitation, something only a complete idiot would have done considering lethal doses of cyanide were involved, clearly indicate that the poison was delivered by another means. Most probably in food, he was given a meat sandwich and strong English or German mustard would easily conceal the taste of cyanide. Add to that the conference conducted by the chief of Army Intelligence, which has several known intelligence officers present as well as 2 un-named, uniformed men, who were no doubt connected to British Intelligence agencies, clearly indicates that this was a cover up meeting. Himmler was killed under direct orders from someone back in Britain, now it was time to build up a plausible suicide story. Removal of teeth, as well as the hasty burial of Himmler's unpreserveld corpse, (before anyone with any real records can examine him) virtually guaranteed that upon exhumation at a later date, something the Intelligence officers would have assumed would occur, would guarantee that his body could not be positively identified nor could his exact cause of death be ascertained from his rotting corpse. Any future inquiry would have to rely on the testimony of the intelligence officers, their enlisted subordinates, and their hand picked medical officers, to verify Himmler's cause of death. Case closed, as far as they are concerned, mission accomplished. Himmler can no longer provide damaging testimony and possibly physical evidence which linked very high ranking members of British society with the nazi party. As military men they are sworn to defend King and country, note the order, King then country. King George VI was a much beloved monarch and having his brother, the former King Edward VIII turned Duke of Windsor, and Wallis Simpson, now the Duchess of Windsor, exposed for the nazi supporters they were and any possible plots by Himmler's SS and the former King to somehow supplant King George VI and return to the throne of a nazi collaborationist Britain, would humiliate the Crown and Britain herself. Himmler would have kept meticulous records and made sure he had them hidden safely to be used as bargaining chips. So the safest thing to do for the British government is to have Himmler removed from the equation. As for his missing brain, that's a new mystery to work on, as you are doing. I do know that it was extremely common in that era for the brains of particularly nasty criminals, people who were deemed criminally insane, people who were known sociopaths or psychopaths, as well as those from highly intelligent individuals, to be removed and used for study. So the brain being removed really isn't that important to the case of how he died. It is however important to quell the theory that Himmler escaped Germany after the war. Dr. Felton, I am sure that you will follow your excellent investigative skills and, if the brain still exists, get to the bottom of that mystery. Good Hunting.

Thank you for pushing forward the hypothesis. I find it very interesting. I have some issues though. Firstly, how would the SS have helped some of the monarchy to try and overthrow other members of the monarchy? Secondly, if Himmler had the information to humiliate the British, then why couldn't he share it with other surviving Nazis caught and tried at Nuremberg? Surely Himmler must have thought if something were to happen to him, then that information he has would also disappear. It would have been wiser to share that information with other surviving members of the Nazi party. Plus to stick to the information that Himmler had, then surely Hitler must have known. So my final question is why didn't Hitler use that information as propaganda during the war to cause alienation among the allies? Surely the USSR and USA would find hard to support Britain if certain members of the monarchy were Nazi sympathisers. Thank you.
@eds70332 жыл бұрын
Very well done Dr. Felton! As a physician, I am appalled at such apparent intelligence and medical incompetence. You are spot on by questioning whether this story is a massive screw up or something far deeper. As to why is only conjecture, but the leading theory is a cover up of the incompetent capture leading to the death. Military embarrassment? Or some I’ll designed plan.
@bernieschiff59192 жыл бұрын
I think there might be more to it. Testifying in open court at a war crimes trial might reveal possible negotiations Himmler had with the British government during the war. It was mentioned Himmler seemed to feel confident he had something with which he could trade, information perhaps. Churchill may have wanted him silenced for that reason. I smell a coverup here. Excellent series and research on this topic by Dr. Felton.
@heyabusa12 жыл бұрын
@@bernieschiff5919 I think your words are far closer to the truth than any other theory. Himmler, like one or two other Nazi's, could have caused some severe embarrassment to Churchill and others if they'd started talking.
@Iason292 жыл бұрын
It does not make sense though, even if Himmler did not commit suicide but was killed, or even if he did and the british were worried about being judged of not searching him thoroughly, there have been obvious efforts of a great scale in hiding Himmler's identity more than his manner of death. Why do this? There would have been no harm in positively identifying Himmler's body, even in the worst case scenario he was indeed killed. It is obvious that there is a completely different side to this story no one knows about not having to do with how he died but who he is. Such total noncooperation and effort to hide his identity could only imply that Himmler's body was the body of a substitute and indeed Himmler may have remained alive with the help of the British for reasons unknown or as a part of some deal. Perhaps the only reason could be that if Himmler was officially alive and was interrogated the world and especially other governments may have been curious on what he may have revealed to the British. But with him officially being dead, the british could have had a free reign of unlimited intelligence he possessed without the boundaries of sharing it with anyone since he was officially dead. And perhaps the only price Himmler may have asked for his cooperation was his freedom and a new life, something which would have been impossible if he was still alive as he would have been definitely tried at the Nuremberg Trials. Many claim the British saw more value in him being dead than alive because it was "rumored" he possessed embarrassing information but I disagree, that because of that fact he was worth to the British far more alive than dead as it was the only way of finding out what he really knew. And based on what he knew the British had total control over his life and could have executed him to their own accord if they wished since you cannot kill the same person twice.

He would tell me stories about examining the nazis and chatting with them one day and seeing them hanged the next. He lived a very interesting life and later became friends with Ronald Reagan. He was very wealthy and had many artifacts and paintings in his house including Teddy Roosevelts rifle. When he died his wife auctioned his stuff for, I assume, a hefty sum. Dr Felton, as an MD in the research field, it is possible that Cambridge cannot tell you the specimens belong to because they have been anonymised. That means that the records connecting a given specimen number to an actual name have been destroyed or were never provided to them in the first place. Often laboratories get specimens without any personal identification data. Samples may be labelled with origin and subject number but only the research site which interacts with the human subject has the actual name and other identification information for the subject. Only they can link the specimen to a given name and surname. Cambridge may therefore not have access to this and so it would then not be possible for them to tell us whose specimens they house.

As a dentist I can only say that a man with such a status of teeth as the ones provided by Dr. Brown's dental examination records fits the description of a man with high socioeconomic status at the time. Seeing as the war went on for several years and access to proper nutrition and dental hygiene resources became increasingly difficult to obtain, this condition of dental health would have been hard to maintain going down the socioeconomic ladder, let alone for an expendable body double. As for the pulled out teeth discovered on the later exhumed corpse, I noticed that the dental records noted gold caps and silver amalgam fillings, which would had been a financial incentive perhaps?

From an age when to appear amateur was seen as much more preferable than professional the level of apparent shambling incompetence here seems just too much to believe. Will the mystery be solved when the papers are no longer secret? And just why, after all this time, ARE the papers still secret?? Brilliant stuff and thank you so much for your tireless efforts to uncover the truth!
@Hekkietoir2 жыл бұрын
Yes “history” like this is no longer contemporary, it is now history. I wonder why this is kept secret. Are there still so many (neo) Nazis? Is it because Himmler’s family members that need protection? Is it because the blundering British officers still need to be protected, or are those teeth getting worth more or even less over time. A piece of brain for €15000? Teath for €50K now maybe. How to authenticate such a claim. Hence the removal on ebay? Americans will pay anything at auction, but there needs to be proof. It is the proof that is the issue. No mention of the glass in reports is the most interesting in this story. But why would the British be in the middle of this riddle. That americans took everything home as relics i get, but not the British right? or am i off on that one.
@tommaguzzi17232 жыл бұрын
Himmler knew where all the money, gold, treasure and information was so it doesn't stretch my imagination much to think he was allowed to dissappear for that reason. Not by the men involved here but much, much further up the food chain.

One interesting aspect of death masks is they often contain small samples of the subject's hair. As a result, an experienced researcher might be able to recover DNA from the existing death mask.
@woopimagpie2 жыл бұрын
There may well be strong incentives from higher powers to NOT identify the DNA. If it turns out it wasn't Himmler, that leads to far too many awkward questions. I'm sure the British Government are quite happy for the identity to remain mysterious so the claim that it was Himmler can be maintained. Attempting to positively identify the remains is a dangerous path, which is no doubt why no one has tried.

Removal of the teeth and hiding the body from the Soviets especially, as well as the medical officer in charges complete omission of Himmler at all. His brain is probably in a storage jar in dusty store room somewhere. Many years ago i did some work in a london hospital that was have an old research wing demolished; in one room were shelves full with hundreds of jars with all sorts of body parts in them. There was even a babies skull that had been kept for some unknown reason. All the jars and other items had fading identification numbers written on them; any records of who they were from having long been lost. On asking why they were kept i was told no one had the authority to dispose of them, that process requiring more than tipping them into a skip. I do think that Himmler's brain, if it still exists, is probably in an anonymous jar gathering dust in a locked storeroom much like the ones in that now demolished London hospital wing .

Thank you for the series about Himmler and his death, Here's hoping we will still be around when the 100-year secrecy act will end, to know what really happened As some of the facts stated in the 4-part series leave some doubt & even more questions as to why certain steps were followed and other crucial steps completely ignored. For example why Himmler's body was left for 3 days in the same house. Why would they have buried his body and the secrecy surrounding the burial site? Why would the governing bodies deny reference to the brain and its whereabouts? Honestly hope you find the answers. Thank you for all your hard work (Mark Felton) and reporting on historical facts about the history of the world and specifically WW2

With regard to the release of the secret documents - I wouldn't hold your breath. UK Governments of all political persuasions have a history of simply extending the period before which documents can be released ... not having had any recourse to public scrutiny or discussion to arrive at such decisions. The 100-year period applied to these docs seems to suggest that information embarrassing to senior "important" people is being suppressed - the 100 year period generally thought to safely ensure that the persons concerned (and most direct relatives) would be safely in their graves by then and therefore beyond any kind of comment, retribution or justice.

It's very common for political regimes to destroy/hide the physical remains of powerful enemies. Burial sites can easily become shrines for future dissidents, and physical remains (relics) are hot targets for theft.
@sambra19792 жыл бұрын
They would keep the burial sight secret for the same reason jimmy savile ended up in an unmarked grave in secrecy. The grave would be an open sewer, and the body would no doubt be dug up by someone wanting to desecrate it so he can't rest in piece.

Nice series with deep discussion about an often forgotten (or disclosed) part of history, Dr Felton! Just a small side note here, if Himmler's brain were to be found, I believe it would still be hard to conduct DNA test as brain preservation and fixation (which mostly done using formaldehide) would have dissolved the nucleotides (including DNA) in the brain cells' nucleus. Nevertheless, I am looking forward for any new development in this case as it is still fascinating. Thank you Dr. Felton.
