Good job Mark and guys. I got my Woodland Mill out the other day to saw up some utility poles a friend gave me. Not a good idea without metal detector. They were pretty wet with treatment too so learned some good lessons. Great lumber for what I wanted but a lot of work. Tell the guys Hi. Thanks for all you do.
@markgalicic77883 сағат бұрын
thanks Dave , yes we hate sawing them because we spend more time getting the metal out than sawing them lol.

I had my retirement coundown and passed a few years ago after working since the 8th grade. I love retirement and not puching a clock. CONGRATS ON THE COUNT-DOWN. I tauight almost 50 years combined military, university, middle and high school levels along with a HUGE amount of parttime occupations. The only thing I miss are the kids. I know you will think it's getting slower as the day comes into view but have patience. viewed in California

I might suggest , that you get a powered hand planer to remove the “ left-over “ undercut “ rag “ on the very large saw logs : a powered hand planner would zip off the corner of the logs in just a second or two .
@rodkirt92732 сағат бұрын
I have watched every episode of this saw blade since it was installed : I noticed that ( in the sheen of the light reflecting from it ) , that the saw is showing the beginning stages of “ quartering “ where the tension of the blade might need for a saw-hammer to “ straight edge “ the saw and adjust the saw’s tension . When a saw “ quarters tension “ it is extremely difficult to hammer the saw back to right . 🤷♂️ I have 8 years of experience working as the sawyer and ( both ) working in the saw-filing room where the saw-hammer ried to teach me the ( nearly lost art ) of hammering saws . I assisted him with the saws and sharpened all the the knives , chipper blades and planer mill knives for the entire sawmill .

Mark, maybe you can contact a major oil company to sponsor you with enough synthetic hydraulic oil to do a change over in the mill. Cold temps wouldn't affect it and make it easier on your pump at the start. Hang the oil company's banner from the oil line support.

Hey Mark, I have a few cherry trees that I'm considering getting sawed up. What do you recommend as a good generic, general purpose log length for sawing? I'm thinking 10' plus a few inches. I don't really have a purpose for it at this time, just want to have some lumber around for future projects.
@markgalicic77884 сағат бұрын
yes the longer is better but make sure it is straight and cut it over by 4" to 6" for trimming after it dries.
@rebelsqk4 сағат бұрын
That is a good number. However 8+ and 12+ are good even 6+ or less. If you just want some lumber, all lengths of it are good for something! Take the most the trees will give you. No two are the same. That's my two cents.

@JosephHussey-s4fСағат бұрын
Stihl recommends rotating the saw blade each time you swap chains. The blade has two oiler holes to allow this. That way the blade wears evenly.
