Thank you Mark for your wonderful TRACON series. It taught me everything I need to get started, and more. Would like to dig out some for LAS and MIA now, but with your "principles" videos it should be possible to figure out traffic flow at these 2 other airports included in TRACON2012. Well done and highly appreciated!

It depends upon how busy the airport is. At LAX there might very well be one controller handling departures and a different controller handling landings, but it would be unusual for there to be a dedicated controller for each of the four runways. There is definitely a dedicated controller for ground movements, but that's not part of this game. At a less-busy airport a single controller would handle both takeoffs and landings.

Nice imformative video...awesome! Y does in every active runways have different controller?

I'm a real-world controller and just kind of skipped around (found this video because I used to work at SoCal), but that "overtake calculator" at 32:00 is pretty funny! In real world of course we don't get to hit "pause" and bring up a spreadsheet. And you certainly don't need one to figure overtakes. In ATC you memorize the time and distance numbers (300 kts groundspeed is 5 miles a minute, 240 is 4, 180 is 3, etc). It applies to overtakes too -- 60 kt overtake means you lose 1 nm per minute spacing. With a 20 kt overtake like in your example you lose 1 mile every 3 minutes, and they're going to both be at 250 kts in a minute or two anyway (250 kt speed limit below 10,000) so this is obviously not a problem and it's funny you would make a whole spreadsheet to figure this! Also if you want to do real-world traffic levels, those arrivals should all be constant streams about 8 miles in trail of the previous. Weird sim though, it's a little bit like our STARS equipment but not quite. The datablock is disorienting -- we show the arrival airport, not STAR, and the exit fix, not the SID. Also no fix names, you memorize those your first weeks on the job.

Hi Mark, by any chance do you have the LAX sector as you use in the turotrials and such since the old forum has been scrapped Thanks!

I'm sorry, but I don't. I uninstalled this game many years ago and don't have any of the files any more. You might, btw, look at ATCPro instead of this sim -- it's much, much more accurate.

Great vid - was pretty helpful when started with this sector. Anyway how are you able to move the aircraft's data tag around? For me they are kind of sticky in their position of 180 degrees from the plane. I knew from Tower! 2011 where you just have to hold it with the left mouse key but this doesn't work for me in Tracon. Also haven't found a setting for this and also the manual doesn't mention - in comparison the Tower manual does! So do you have a special comand or setting made in the editor to make this work?
@markhargrove9 жыл бұрын
As I recall, right-click and hold on the data tag to re-position it.

Mark Hargrove many thanks. Haven't tried that before. You have to click and hold the right mouse key on the plane itself not on the data tag. Works perfect! :D

It was really helpful and the video was nicely done.

Think I may buy this so I can learn the correct way to communicate with others on multiplayer, shame visually it doesn't look like Flightradar24. Would be nice to see aircraft land. Can you control departures too? Are all voices the same?
@IncredibleStan10 жыл бұрын
well its approach and departure. If you were tower or ground then you probably would

Yes -- I'll get that up pretty soon.

Will this system show vector lines on traffic to anticipate position given current heading and speed?
@markhargrove9 жыл бұрын
20PhantomRegiment09 It will not, no. You can view the history trail (and as I recall, that amount of history that is displayed is configurable), but it will not show a predicted forward position.

How did you get this game to work? It crashed my new PC and the voice recog didnt work too. I asked for a refund from the company but was curious what you did.
@markhargrove10 жыл бұрын
The game was released under Windows 7 and that's what I was using when I played it. It's possible that it doesn't work under Windows 8 without some fiddling. You might try running the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode and see what happens.

why doesnt include measuring distance with mouse? we are satiated controlling aircrafts on radar with words, make new feature n add measuring distance !
@markhargrove11 жыл бұрын
I agree. Don't know why the developers didn't do that.

goddammit! its so easy to add a feature that can meaure radials n distances accordingto where we move the mouse!
