My arrangement of Sí Bheag, Sí Mhór was inspired by the bluebells in our local wood - where I recorded this version. The flowers are beautiful and I hope you enjoy the music.
Sí Bheag, Sí Mhór is about a battle between two tribes of fairies - and the bluebell forest seems appropriate. I've used "bell-like" sounds in the music.
You can get a version with higher-quality pictures and sound at www.vimeo.com/7... which you can also download to keep on your machine if you like.

Rare and beautiful. Surely the fairies gathered to listen, and the spirits of great Harpers gone by were glad to know true music continues. Thank you, very much.

This is truly very, very beautiful. So much grace in each pulling of those strings! Thank you for this. It goes without saying that the place where you play could not be more adequate - I almost can see tiny fairies flying and dancing all over the place. Simply enchanting.

Thank you, Cecilia! I still play this arranged in exactly the same way. I tend to do that - experiment with an arrangement and then stick to that. The woods are magical and they were on the road into the village I lived in at the time. I just saw a haze of blue from the car and came back the following year to record the piece. I’m glad I did!

Despite being a 'modern' man. The harp is by far my favorite instrument. Such a beautiful looking instrument with such a 'delicate' and breathtaking sound. Everytime I hear one played, it always sends a shiver down my spine, as if I were the strings myself. I agree with 2BiggerThanThat2, it is a dying instrument, but as long as there are people like you, the harp will continue to live on

this is so great... i loved it, even though i think that carolan's dream is even more touching. i am currently reading a novel about turlough o'carolan of how he became blind an stuff, a story of irish lifestyle and music =) just great. also it tells the story of how he came up with this tune. he was told by ferries, who had a battle on the two mountains, sheebeg and sheemor. its so great to hear the song when you just read about it. thank you mark

From what I was told about this song, it's the name of two rival clans of Si (or Sidhe, if you prefer, pronounced "she"). Despite the pretty tune, it's essentially about a war between these two clans of Faerie. All in all, beautiful rendition. :) Thank you MarkHarmer, for sharing this.
