@@MarkHayward haha... I"m glad I bought some cheaper yoyos for extras... my YYJ Trigger ($9 sale) hit the ground at 30 mph (string flew off finger) and broke,. so I took off the massive steel weight rings and, with a wrap of aluminum-clad tape, they dropped snugly in the spot meant for a cap in a Duncan Pro Z (assembled with the wideing spacers which usually stink on that model without enough rim weight to offset the spacers). I love the big, heavy, slow, stable yoyo so much for slower-speed training I'm going to make another (and maybe machine rings later to go into the Triggers robbed of their rings... the machined POM/Celcon YYJ Trigger deserves more balanced rings than the stamped/punched rings it came with). Anyway this week's worst accident was hitting the end of my forefinger twice in a row at high speed with a rock-hard looper on the heavy side. Bad part is, I cut the end of that finger off like 6 months ago. Even the nail grew back (weird) but the bone is obviously still sharp on the end inside the meat because I about passed out the second time. Well when they animals in the circus it trains them to get the trick right. I love animals so I'll do it to myself.

Awesome video Mark! I'm curious how many old guys like me start learning later in life. I just had an argument with my wife! Why, you might wonder? Because I'm 44 years old and never learned how to yo-yo (besides going up and down when I was a kid). I've just ordered my first yo-yo, Magicyoyo V3. I liked the fact that it's responsive to start learning and it comes with other bearings to upgrade to non-responsive. Your video will definitely be used every day. Only suggestion, if you're promoting your website or yo-yo sales, throw the links in the description or a pinned comment. Many thanks for your help 👍🏼

How do u check to see if your yoyo can do a sleeper
@MarkHayward5 жыл бұрын
1) make sure it's not obviously not broken 2) check to see if it's in working order: if you have a bearing or transaxle, will it spin? Is it rusty? Is there junk stuck in it? If you have a fixed axe: it the string installed correctly? What I meant by that comment in the video is just make sure your yo-yo is in proper working order.

Mark my yoyo will stop in about 1 second when i land it on a string, iam using a whip from yoyo factory can u tell me whats wrong?

The gray yo-yo that I use in the show-off section is the Duncan Mayhem (Duncan Crew Edition). It's totally different from the other yo-yos. It's machined aluminum with a special low-friction surface, it has a ball-bearing axle, and is unresponsive. It's an excellent yo-yo but is not for beginners. My recommendation for the best beginner yo-yo is the Yo-yo Factory Velocity. It's fully adjustable from beginner (responsive) play, up to advanced (unresponsive) play. I also really like the Duncan Barracuda.

I started off with a yo-yo that doesn’t have a spinning centre so I learned for the last couple years on my own in a odd way, it was actually through this video that I learned that they were supposed to spin! yo-yo, and it feels completely different! So now I’m learning how to do it properly, and it’s pretty fun! Especially seeing the differences in how I used to do it versus now. I still have quite a ways to go but I’m getting better each minute I practice.

If you are using a flared-shape yo-yo those two tricks will be pretty hard. I actually debated about whether I should even include them in the video since most people now start out with yo-yos that are that shape. If that's the case for you, don't spend too much time on them, just wait until you get your hands on a narrower yo-yo like the Spintastics Technic, the Duncan ProYo, or something really old-school like a Hummingbird. If a wide yo-yo isn't your problem, try experimenting with the timing of when you push the yo-yo back out. You might be doing it too early, or too late. Otherwise, you might just need practice.

Haha, I was trying to do the Breakaway and accidently done the around the world When Im trying the trapez, the YoYo wont keep spinning on the line (same for tricks like Elevator). It stops spinning and gets tangled. What am I doing wrong? Im using a ball bearing YoYo
@MarkHayward5 жыл бұрын
Great! Breakaway by itself isn't super fun, it's really training for Around the World, so you're doing great. As for Trapeze and Elevator, it sounds like you're breaking the plane of the string. When doing any tricks where the yo-yo sits on the string you have to be really careful to keep it all in the same plane. If you aren't on a flat plane the string will rub on the inner wall of the yo-yo, which both slows it down, but also makes the yo-yo tilt, eventually leading to it flopping, twisting, and tangling. So really focus on keeping the tricks all in one flat plane... like you're a mime yo-yoing on the inside of a glass box :)

Cool tricks! My kid just got a yoyo and it took me back to my yoyoing days 😝 Was looking for some tricks to learn with my son and keep him (and myself) away from electronics for a little while. Loved this video! (Now let's see if I can also get a reply from Mark. I noticed he has replied or liked everyone else's comments. Let's see if I'm as cool as the other guys)

Get in there with your nails, or a tool, put your patient pants on, and stick to it until you get it. Untying knots is a part of yo-yoing for everyone. Even me.

So... I just learned Man on the Flying Trapeze. I am curious as to what I should learn next. I already know how to bind. I have one unresponsive Yo-Yo (CLYW Big Dipper) and one responsive (YoYo Factory The Sage). And what is your recommended choice of string? It needs to be soft, and last a long time. Also... what was the song in the end?
@MarkHayward6 жыл бұрын
My recommendation for the next trick is Double or Nothing, or variations on the summersault from a Trapeze (kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3bUgWVqh7Ccp9E ). Play around and see how many different ways you can find to do it.
@jackbass18386 жыл бұрын
@@MarkHayward Thanks but it says Error 404 not found. what about the string?
@MarkHayward6 жыл бұрын
Sorry about that. I edited the link, and it works now. I prefer cotton string because it cuts up my hands less than the synthetic fibers, but synthetics are usually easier for slack tricks, since the loop stays open really well. I recommend Yo-yo Factory for strings. The song at the very end is my cousin Scott freestyling on a didgeridoo, but I suspect you're asking about my show off song. It's a track downloaded from KZbin for use in videos, and it's called Behind Closed Doors, by Otis McDonald

Thanks so much for this! I recently got a new yoyo for my birthday and have wanted to learn tricks, it came with a book but that was very hard to follow as you could only look through pictures. I learnt the power throw from this, and that was my favourite/most fun thing to do, but now it's definately the sleeper or the breakaway. I like doing a variation of the breakaway where you don't let the string go all the way to your left shoulder, and sort of let the yoyo swing back and forth a few times on a kind of sleeper and then catch it.
@MarkHayward4 жыл бұрын
That sounds fun! I'm glad my video was helpful. I'm with you on the difficulty of learning yo-yo tricks from a book. That was how I learned a lot of my first tricks, and it's tough... especially with the picture tricks!

Mark Hayward : "I use three yo-yos in the video. The green one is the fixed-axle Duncan Ignite. The red yo-yo is the Duncan ProFly, which is very similar to the Ignite, but has the flared shape to make string tricks easier. Both are fixed-axle responsive yo-yos. It's fully adjustable from beginner (responsive) play, up to advanced (unresponsive) play."
