Hey Mark, lead writer of Tanggal (and voice actor for Lucy) here! Thank you for playing our game, the team is really happy that you took your time to do so! I just thought I'd remind people that Tanggal was made during a 10-week long dev course at the University of Skövde, Sweden. The time limit kept us from implementing everything we wanted in the game (it was quite a lot), despite people working overtime. Ten weeks may sound like a lot, but it really isn't - and we learned that the hard way, haha. Regardless, we still hope that the game is an entertaining experience for what it is! We have been thinking of making a quick video explaining the intent and what really happened in the mine, since we understand it may be difficult to reach the correct conclusion with the way the game is right now (even though it's not impossible), in case people would be interested in that. For now, it's really great to read about all the feedback and theories surrounding the game! Thank you again, Mark, and to everyone who enjoyed it :)

FreeFallingUp13 Hi I saw this and I'm Filipino and the Manananggal more often appear as women, or at least that's how they are portrayed in legend. They dont just go for the fetuses in pregnant women but they also eat entrails and by day they are disguised as regular humans then once night comes their bodies separate and the top half is immortal but the bottom half is how you kill it by sealing the wound of the separation so that by sunrise the Manananggal won't be able to return to its old state :)

tanggal means "remove" in the philippines. and when i was a child, i lived in the philippines. the "manananggal" was supposed to be a huge guy with bat wings that feasts on pregnant women, but the manananggal eats the baby/babies inside, not the woman. so those little statues are supposed to be protectors, including the rosary and other things so that the manananggal wont come inside the house. my grandma said she saw one looking out the window when my grandma was with my pregnant mom. i miss my grandma :( anyways go philippines!

I do agree with Mark that the last game would have done a better job if it had more game mechanics. I mean, as far as my knowledge goes, the way to beat the Manananggal is to find its lower half and sprinkle salt over the cleaved open wound from the separation of the upper and lower half, and is also susceptible to vampiric weaknesses of their European counterparts. The protective items could also have been used, but with their effects dissipating over time. The Manananggal is also known to be a shapeshifter, so that should have added more to the terror aspect of not trusting what you normally see.

Some facts about the 3rd game: TANGGAL is the Filipino word for “remove.” MANANANGGAL is a Filipino mythological creature. It disguises as a woman but at night, she can cut her body in half.
