Dad told the kids the nursing home was monitoring his calls and that's why when they called him he would claim to be "too tired to talk" and would text them briefly. He may be one of those older people who don't like to text, or they might have been reading his texts and reporting back to Mary on them. Only a truly unhinged, proven gold digger would throw a fit over money that has nothing to do with her. "After everything I've done for you-!" is classic narcissist/toxic wording of an abuser. OP: Why do you want this plant so damn bad??! Aunt: It's a camera Me: ... Why. Did. You... NOT!! LEAD. WITH. THAT!!!? Freaking loved Story 2. They couldn't have snubbed that homewrecker any more than that even if they had gone up to her the night before the wedding and told her "We're taking the ex and we're ditching you."

2. Tell the older relatives that they wouldn't want you there anyway, because when the officiant asks if anyone objects, you would be jumping right up in front of everyone.

Sounds to me like she was playing the long con; I'm almost wondering if the nursing home is a racket built around the young(er) nurses abandoning their older husbands at the homes. Obviously, we don't know if the father is older than her, but the fact that she just so happened to abandon him at the same home she used to work at speaks to her having some kind of assurances that he wouldn't come back.

Oooh, I so get what OP said about being on fire and being prepared to go to jail for her father. My dad was very protective of his independence but his doctor was basically writing him off as he was over 80. He came to see me in a real state and I immediately took him to emergency care who then referred him to the hospital near where I live. Basically he was very poorly and I was furious. Long story short, he moved doctors, his health vastly improved and his original doctors surgery was shut down. I still get angry thinking about it now and it was years ago now!!! As for story 2, I've been thinking about the verdicts that OP was an AH for organising the trip for the cousins but I've come to the conclusion he actually isn't. I get where the commenters are coming from but that's a very clear comment on the whole cheating thing. The older generation does have a habit of covering up things like that and pretending all is fine because FAMILY and ignoring the hurt and injured parties. Emily will be left in no doubt what her family think of her infidelity

Story 1: this is the OPs dad's fault. She told him who she was and he still continued their marriage. These men always marry these awful women then act surprised Pikachu face when they are indeed awful. Glad OP sort it out though and saved her silly father. Just happy that the dad didn't allow evil stepmother to ravage the kids inheritance from their mother, he did that right at least.

Story 2: NTA The OP isn't throwing a "rival party" nobody wanted to go to the wedding in the first place and didn't want to waste their time off. Just like they said no to the wedding they can say no to the trip. It's not a competition. They just aren't supporting adultery and are making a point.

Last story, OP's alternative non-wedding getaway makes him no more an a-hole than I am. Which probably means they are but it's the kind of a-hole I can live with. I'm not a nice person but I'm very protective towards those who are, especially when they are being shafted by the other kind of a-hole.

Also weddings made from adultery shouldn't really be supported. It's ironic that the older generation supports this wedding when it basically is glorifying the destruction of two families.

This is just a valuable lesson about who in your family condones cheating. OP just learned who to stay away from.
@jamestown8398 Жыл бұрын
STORY #2 NTA. I can’t believe anyone would call OP an ah. He doesn’t want to go to the wedding, cousins don’t want to go to the wedding, and since they’re not going they have the right to use that time for something else - like a trip to Florida. If this hurts Emily then that’s just a little karma for cheating on her husband with another woman’s husband. “Family is family” - not when it comes to cheating.

the second story remind me of when my mom and step dad got married. My step dad sexually abused me, so I straight up refused to attend anything of theirs and denied his attendance to ANY of my important events like graduation, birthdays, etc. People said I was being a bitch for holding a grudge against a step parent bc everyone thought I was just salty my mom remarried and my mom went along with it. Finally I had enough and told anyone who asked " I'll never invite a pedo to anything of mine. " If they asked me to elaborate, I told them to ask my mom why I REALLY left the house at 16. why I was such a bitch from ages 9+. shit. blew. up.

Tyvm Mark. Story 1. They should go to the best TV channel in area and newspaper and ask them to find out! Most have investigative journalists on staff that will help. Nursing homes cannot stand having their bad deeds known! This could let the public know so no one else suffers at the hands of monsters. Also no trouble for taping conversations. I thought maybe the plant had been his first wife’s/OPs mother’s and the aunt wanted to make sure it was still alive and taken care of but when it said it was plastic I was like… ok what kind of sister are you worrying about a plant instead of your brothers safety? But then she said it was a camera and I legit audibly said “OH SHIT!” Lmao🤣🤣

if I was OP I would sue the nursing home and the wife for everything they are worth. there are mountains of evidence that shady stuff was going on. all the credit cards, expensive traveling, gambling and stealing his crap while he was in the nursing home after being told from the hospital he could go home. I hope for updates!!

A similar situation happened in my family, except the elder abuse was from my sister. My parents died in lockdown in separate care homes. You can’t imagine the levels someone will go to, my parents weren’t rich, thankfully my mum had written a will making my oldest brother executor and he managed to get some legal control. I’d tell you all about it but I said something online before and got a solicitors letter telling my my sister will sue me if I say anything. Yeah, she sometimes creates a fake Facebook account and pretends to be a friend to get info about me. Thankfully, while I couldn’t get protection for my parents I got police involved with her abuse to me and she can’t contact me. Feel a bit safer but you always have to watch your back.

As heartbreaking as story one is, all I can think about is that the dad knew this woman was money hungry back when his daughter was a teenager and she tried to get him to steal the kids' inheritance. But he stayed with her out of 'love'. Decades ago she made it clear she wasn't in love. I'm glad the OP and her siblings were able to save him, but now he's looking at his retirement years being left financially ruined, and having lost many sentimental things to this woman because he ignored the red flags. I hope others take this as a cautionary tale. Don't stay with someone who's clearly greedy just for love. If anything happens to you, they will ruin you and leave you for dead.

Like go to a state that it's a one party consent and upload there (dont know if it's legal, but those other reddit stories with cheaters and they release the video to get revenge by releasing the video in a state where it's not illegal to.) so maybe they can do the same with the nursing home video.
