I love the confidence that Mark has with stuff he's never worked on. It's not a careless lack of humility as many people exhibit who overestimate their abilities, but the careful application of years of mechanical and artistic knowledge that gets applied to understand and plan the necessary actions to fix things properly. I'd be terrified to even break the action on a gun like this, but yet again it shows that paying for a master's work is never a bad investment.

There are firearms I wouldn't be comfortable working on, this here is a firearm I wouldn't even be comfortable owning! The craftsmanship put into these old firearms is unbelievable. Great work on bringing this Firearm back into service, also I used BOB'S rust blue to reblue a Krag that someone took a wirewheel to, and it turned out amazing, thank you for all the information!

What is really unusual in this combination gun is the modern shift cocking device on the top of the rear stock. In the 60th hardly any drilling was equipped with such a cocking shifter. Sauer, Krieghoff, Suhl, Kettner and others only came up with that in the late 70th. If I remember correctly, and I was a kid then myself, Krieghoff was the first one that came out with that option commercially. Today for safety reasons Blaser and many others have adopted it but my Sauer 3000 drilling (originally my dad's) from the mid 60th doesn't have it yet. The third lock was generally cocked through opening the drop lock as are the two shotgun locks. Anyways, that drilling of yours was either later upgraded with the external cocking device or a very special production of a gunsmith way ahead of his time. To me it looks that some gunsmith put quite a bit of work into this gun with the horn cap, trigger guard and recoil pad. Also the Sauer Luftwaffendrilling was the only production drilling to my knowledge with an aluminum housing. This drilling was, if the date is right a special order project for somebody that had a lot of money and high status. At the Nuernberg gun show in 1986 I have seen one impressive Heym drilling with gold inlays with a sales price of US $ 350 000.- Love your videos by the way!

I was very curious to see how the lockwork activated three barrels with two triggers... and then it's also a set trigger! I do not blame you for not wanting to tear that blivet down to the component level... "Ach du lieber, mein schatz"!!! Senor Mark, you ol' "flabbergasted barnacle" you! Your video was "mesmerizing" to say the least! As a retired industrial designer, technical illustrator, draftsman, & other good schtoof, I can't imagine a man with a pencil & paper, drawing up, engineering, the very very complicated action work, from the brain in his head (the best place for a brain too!)!!! Amazing designing! THEN machining all those complicated parts to fit & work together!! NO CNC machining either! Unbelievable to the "bwain" in my ol' head! That horn trigger guard was a great piece of beauty & craftsmanship too! How many hours to "hog it out"?! You didn't even get to show off the gorgeous wood stock either! YOUR gunsmithing expertise is a wonder to behold too! This video greatly helps me to more appreciate the wonder of the GOD given human mind!!! THANK YOU MARK for making the end of my day such a blessing! "Gesundheit" & pass da LUTEFISK poleaze!

The date of first shooting was probably before 1933, because there is no eagle with swastika and no date of first shooting like it is common later. All these guns were made in Suhl, I think Hubertus was no company like Simson or Sauer. It was the trademark of AKAH a trading company in Gummersbach, that still exists until today. Very nice gun!

I remember drooling over the lovely drillings for sale at a shop in Kitzbühl, Austria. The UK authorities for some reason are not keen on them, presumably because they don't fit into their required neat categories but that would not stop me applying for one at my French house. Ideally 2 x 20g + 1 x 9.3 x 62R or 74R for the all wild boar that are tearing my garden up.

I once had similar drilling as that one and loved it! The problem was it was too fancy for me to carry and bang in the woods in the rain so i decided to sell it and buy a cheaper combination gun (with one less barrel) for hunting. They make great sense as a "one gun to go hunting" with. Too bad most hunting regulations really frown on that now...
@marinioaweischo66143 жыл бұрын
Nice, i think there are not much american gunsmith that understand a drilling. The rear triggerplate screw or cross screw is conical and just bears in front of the wood so its pulling the hole action back.Thats important, if it dont "pulls" you have to make a bigger screw or bed the wood hole in front.

Does Eric in Georgia also have a KZbin channel? Just wondering. Magnificent drilling in any respect. All around a good looker. Though to most of us in the current era it is weird that anyone would use aluminum to make such a high end gun, of course ninety years ago aluminum wasn't considered cheap or pedestrian like it is now. That trigger mechanism was what those of us who were in the Army would call a clusterfuck. I wouldn't have taken it apart for any reason other than dire necessity either.
