I will remember it. And I know even if the gates of heaven were closed before you, here you were known as a man of justice. On my behalf, you can break down those gates just for fun.. When I heard this in English, I thought it was beautiful and moving. Hearing it in Finnish, it brought me to tears. What a beautiful, beautiful language Finnish is. It has a,ways fascinated me, both because of its lilting tones, and because I understand that JRR Tolkien, a master linguist, based the language of the elves upon it and ancient Celtic. Being of Celtic descent, the musicality of the Finnish speaks to my heart and soul. I would love to be able to speak it, but I u derstand it is one of the world’s must difficult to learn......and I’m old. But it does make my heart sing to hear it.

Ricardo, I have to disagree. If the song is written around a specific language, it will sound better in that language. If you were to write this same song in Portuguese with the same meanings to each of the sentences (but NOT a direct translation of the song), it would come out sounding different because it would be in Portuguese. It's just a matter of cadence. I do not speak or understand Portuguese either, but would still listen to it because it's a WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL song! Metal can be written in any language, you just have to work at it. :)

This song is from album called "Mustan sydämen rovio" which is a double release with "Pyre of the Black Heart". Marko performed every song in both languages. And he also wrote all the songs, some originally in English, some originally in Finnish, so both albums have both original and translated songs. And as a native Finn that also knows English pretty well, the translations that Marko did are very good so you can just see the lyrics for the variant of the song you want to understand. For this song, you could just read the lyrics of The Voice of my Father and you wouldn't lose anything about the content of the song. The translations have minor intentional inaccuracies to allow using a word that sounds better in the song but the overall idea and message of every song is clearly the same both in Finnish and English.

I found this somewhere and modifed to better fit to finnish lyrics. Marko might disagree with some things. Edit. I edited again. This is to my opinion the most accurate translation. It's not perfect partly because some ideas and references don't translate in to english because of cultural differences like for example the difference between the words Infinity and eternity. I think that the word "äärettömyys" in this case does not mean time but rather the distance. This is not a poetic translation but rather I tryed to translate the finnish meaning of the lyrics as I understand it. In anycase as I said, this is hard to do well. It is also endlesly debatable so if you disagree please feel free to make a better one. My father’s voice Your voice, I feel and hear, it echoes to eternity. You got broken, but I’ll remember longer. Even tough man’s power breaks, the dust fills the vessel. Even tonight, I know you’ll sing me to a sleep. My father’s voice. I sing with it too. My father’s voice. Sing with it my son. My father’s voice. From my ancestors. My father’s voice. I remember it. And I know, even if the gates of heaven would be closed before you, You where known as man of justice, in here. On my behalf you can break down those gates, just for fun. Goodness can’t be chained, by the letters of law. My father’s voice. I sing with it too. My father’s voice. Sing with it my son My father’s voice. From my ancestors. My father’s voice. I remember it. Even though they claimed our flesh was earth. It’s the ashes of the stars, forever burning. He's always got that "mad scientist" vibe on him, especially with that two-headed 10-stringer in hand. Besides that, reaaally beautiful song.

After hearing of your departure from Nightwish, I wish I had found you years ago. And on the other hand I am pleasantly surprised but I also feel where you are coming from. After 20 years on my current profession I am becoming disenchanted and will hopefully be able to make a jump to the next chapter in my life. Much respect. Hope to hear you and of you in the future.

Услышала один раз,и теперь меня эта песня не отпускает.Вот умеют финны зацепить,да так,что всю душу перевернёт.Всегда восхищалась этой страной,этими людьми, которые берегут свою природу.Вроде холодные и суровые,но в то же время такие романтичные и чувственные,и с таким богатым внутренним миром.Музыка очень качественная.А кто был на концертах финских групп тот согласится - какая от них бешенная и классная энергетика идет,какой заряд эмоций,это что-то невероятное!!

One of the most powerful and beautiful voices in not just Metal and rock, but in music PERIOD. The video is beautifully shot and edited, the music is sweeping and glorious. Marco's voice has always been amazing, but it's nice to hear him sing something a little softer than Nightwish and Tarot for a change.
