When I was a kid in the 1970's my grandma strung a large button on a string and showed me how to spin it. I grew up kind of poor and my siblings and I didn't get a lot of toys for Christmas or on our birthdays, so that button and string toy was a kind of cool toy back then. I haven seen anyone play with a button and string toy since then. Now seeing that same kind of device being converted to a centrifuge is awesome.
@Tylerl1287 жыл бұрын
I had a toy like that when I was a kid, it had a plastic ball in the middle with a pattern instead of a button though. So someone must have had the same idea as your grandma and started selling it! this was in like 2000, you should have patented it before that toy company did, you'd be rich now lol

It's $25 on the website because you're buying a kit, not the microscope by itself. From the website, Accessories include a magnetic coupler for recording photos and videos through a mobile device, an LED lighting module that mounts on the back of the Foldscope, a set of prepared microscope slides, infinitely re-usable PVC slides, a Foldscope journal and field guide, and many accessories for collecting, storing, and preparing samples (including 5-micron nylon filter cloth, Berlese funnel meshes, and more!)

From 0.50 to 6.00 USD per person, and if the sick poor people can't afford to pay this much, there are organizations around the world that will. It's cheap. Very cheap. The equipment created by these guys replaces the expensive, hard to carry and energy demanding telescopes and centrifuges DOCTORS carry to help people who live in humble places. For people who own personal digital cutters like a Brother Scan N Cut, cricut, cameo, etc the foldscope could be sold / downloaded as a .SVG to be cutout by anyone with one of these types of machines. The lens and a light source are all that remains for the physical portion of it. Or use the built-in scanner on the ScanNCut to make a cut-to-data version of the paper portion of it.
