I am in my teens and have autism and I can say everything you said in this video about the autistm spectrum is true. Over time some people can make their own filter, for example: I can still hear everything else, but the person I'm talking to is the main source of my concentration if I focus and at this point at restaurants I just have to listen to 7 different conversations and had to get used to it over time..... Probably why I always cried near the end of every dinner for YEARS.

This video hits. I never knew most of my life until we discovered our son has autism that I also have autism. I spent years with psychiatrists and psychologists thinking I had some form of mental illness but it's mostly anxiety/panic from sensory overload that many autistic people experience. My son began experiencing these shutdowns during family outings and we finally made the discovery. It's so crazy how much my son and your son have in common, from the laughing to the wearing costumes and wanting to make people happy and coloring pictures. He's also highly intelligent with a middle school or better vocabulary at age 6. Thanks for shedding light on this topic. Hopefully we can get people to view autism for what it actually is.
