Hi Mark, Watching this vid, I've got a little filter came with my tank, it's a tecatlantis TC 200 (the tank and stuff was given to me, it's never been used but is some years old) . It looks like the one in the video except it has no airline attachment, it seems to work by sucking in water and chucking it out of the top. I'm trying to puzzle out how to modify it, any advice?

Thanks for the great tips! I just did this to my system tonight. The Small tube that you cut in half, I chose to cut it much smaller and make it like a little plug. I melted it on my stove top, using and old pie tin to shape it. 😆 With the top tube that attaches to the pump, it was to small to fit over, almost the same size as the smaller ring. (perhaps they changed it a bit since this video was made) Anyways, I rotated the top end of the tube just over my stove element, only enough to get it warmed up, then I slid it over the end of a Sharpe marker. This was the perfect little "stretch" the plastic needed to fit onto the pump snugly. It's working wonderfully! 😊

Just installed this for the Atyas gabonensis because i was tired of using a regular filter with a tight on it (i have some red cherries with the atyas, hence the tight) and having to clean it was a chore. The atyas and cherries both seem to love it for different reasons. Cherries love the sponges, and atyas love the water current.

Thank you the first 2 videos that came up in my search for "how to use mini filter for aquarium" I found yours very helpful. I bought mine online, from china but has no english instruction. Actually the kid in the 1st video said he didn't know what the little air tube was for. So I let him know, since that was the only thing I was sure of....LOL the second video was a girl who unpacked her tiny filter from the box, and that was the end of that! Funny since her video say it's a review on the mini filter HaHa. I guess it was a review on packaging of aquarium filters? kidden, but not.....thanks again ten thumbs up

that's almost identical to the setup i'm running. but in addition, i replaced the lift tube with a little food safe container, holding a small hand full of ceramic media. i've found that these very fine sponges clogg up quite easily, after 6-8 weeks, by being just overgrown with (good) bacterial sludge. you can feel, when it's time - you cant compress the sponge as much anymore, and it starts feeling almost fleshy-squishy, with all the stuff in it. so i routinely clean one of the two every two weeks, and quite thoroughly, to keep good flow going. it seems to do good, because freash bacterial growth is most active.

I like the video thanks. Only one things is missing. Im very curious why you think this filter is amazing? What does it do in comparison to lets say a air pump? Thank you!
@MarksShrimpTanks7 жыл бұрын
Its pretty powerful ,also with it being on a double sponge you dont lose bacteria if you clean one of them.
@WPT_NL7 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your reaction. So the plus side of this filter is that it is more powerful than a airpump. That creates more waterflow and that is the better part?
@MarksShrimpTanks7 жыл бұрын
Yeah and the double sponge mod and the fact that its a pretty powerful little pump for its price ..you can get them here for around £15 .. the only thing I do is I turn the power head to face the glass because it can be to much for the shrimp,this way you still get all the suction without all of the water movement ..the other reason its perfect is because it fits on to a double sponge without modifications so its ready to go.
@WPT_NL7 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. I was working with a airpump but i also had two of these in house. Zo installed them right back :) But when i put the water outflow fully open it is way to much water movement for my 60 liter Dennerle Nano Cube aquarium.

a Mattenfilter takes up much more space, for about the same bio-filtration capacity. IMHO it's a dated method, from days where there wasnt nearly as much cheap but sophisticated equipment available. they still have one benefit, though: the huge filter volume plus much slower flow, makes it so you barely ever have to clean a Mattenfilter. and you can let a wall of moss grow on them.
