Mark everything's great... but how do you know and how can you be sure that the bacteria have died when there is no more gas in the bottle ??? Have you done your research? There is no gas in commercial bottles of probiotic bacteria...
@MarksShrimpTanks4 күн бұрын
Good question! The gas production in homemade lacto cultures comes from bacterial fermentation, mainly lactic acid bacteria breaking down sugars. When gas stops forming, it typically means fermentation has slowed or stopped due to either a lack of food or a buildup of lactic acid. That doesn’t mean all bacteria are dead, but their activity is greatly reduced. Commercial probiotic bottles don’t have gas because they use controlled production methods, sometimes freeze-drying or suspending bacteria in a stable medium to keep them dormant. This is why homemade and commercial probiotics behave differently. Hope that helps!

@@MarksShrimpTanks Very good answer Mark, thank you, it has been bothering me for 10 months since you made the video... look, on the original KZbin page it is written that probiotic bacteria still live in the bottle after fermentation, which help maintain hygiene and health, they suggest even drinking and storing drinks for later. What do you think about it based on your own experiences?
@MarksShrimpTanks3 күн бұрын
to be honest I dont use this anymore since I stopped feeding my tanks so much, right now I am down to just 1 feeding a week, before when I was using Lacto I was feeding 2-3 times a week, I use my eye and key things in the tanks like leaves to tell me when to feed shrimp now. If you have neos and you feed daily you couold still use this.

Thank you for the shoutout Mark! I like your boa shrimp even low-grade looks awesome! I know you know but why don't you add a filter with UV light into that green water tank? It will treat your green water in no time. The problem is that the green water algae suck a lot of the nutrients and it will wear your soil out, you better treat it asap. Nice video as always!

Hey mark, I’ve got a question. I’ve got a female spotted pinto that hasn’t moved from the back corner of the tank in two weeks. Haven’t seen her eat or molt either. She looks healthy and does move a little bit when other shrimp go near her but that’s it. All the other shrimp in that tank are completely fine, enjoying life. What do you think could be wrong
@MarksShrimpTanks4 күн бұрын
She could be preparing to molt or become berried, give her time she will most probably be fine.

I use a breeder tank. Put the shrimplets in a grow out tank. And after a while if the group is big enough I put the best of what I got in a third tank.

If you have a UGF with soil in it, then you also need a sponge filter to catch the litter that a UGF produces.

Hi, I just checked by neocaridina tank's TDS and it read 1400! I'm guessing it's because it's a dirted tank, and there's something like tannins dissolving in the water. The shrimp are doing fine though. Should I try to lower it quickly or not?
@MarksShrimpTanks4 күн бұрын
If the shrimp are fine dont do anything drastic, but for neos you can do water changes they are not the same as bee shrimp. I would do 25% water changes in neo tanks each week.

I use, The 2 hr aquarist fertilizer. Apt 1 to be exact on some of my newer setup tanks. I’ve seen great results. I even use Apt sky to remineralize RO water. Gets GH up to 7. They have a dosing calculator on their website for both products which makes everything so easy to use.

Glad to see someone being proactive and looking for a solution to the amazonia problem rather than relying on their hoard of amazonia gold that is going to run out eventually. I've been relying on amazonia ver 2 but even that is getting difficult to get. Would be nice to find a soil with the same buffering capacity and longevity that doesn't leech ammonia constantly.
