Hello! So I got green leaves here. Can I microwave them and then add them to the tank after they are dry but green? Since I live in India I have access to the green ones but I'm unable to get the dried stuff as I have to unfortunately travel a bit. I use the leaves for shrimp. Is it safe?

Is the ammonia spike from the amazonia not an issue?
@MarksShrimpTanks21 сағат бұрын
No but the pH is you have to let the tank settle before adding shrimp. Nowadays I just let the tanks sit for 4 weeks and then add some shrimp and I never measure anything apart form ph.

Mark i followed one of your suggestions and. Got a bunch of Duckweed and turned it into flake food the shrimp and fish ate. It was a great idea Mark! Thank you! The fish even enjoyed it.

What is your pH when you add the shrimp?
@MarksShrimpTanks3 күн бұрын
Ive had tanks as low as 5ph when adding shrimp. djust drip acclimat and the shrimp are fine, the biggest thing killing shrimp is people adding food when the inside of the tank is covered in food.

Wow will try that next tomorrow

Question: Is it ok to add cutle fish bone to my shrimp tank? I figure it’s a natural way to add calcium to the water. I will boil it first. What do you think Mark? I do add liquid calcium and shrimp minerals already, keeping my TDS around 250. My shrimp are breeding like crazy, so I must be doing things right already.
@MarksShrimpTanks3 күн бұрын
If they are breeding like crazy I wouldnt change anything.

Hi Mark, I want to ask, is it normal for PH to rise in a few months if you use Akadama soil?
@MarksShrimpTanks3 күн бұрын
yes its normal if you do any type of water change after setup, I dont do any water changes at all now so my ph is always low.

Hey Mark, i love what you do and share, it helps a lot. Can you do this with bacteria powder instead of rice barn ? Cheers
@MarksShrimpTanks3 күн бұрын
Oh yes for sure, all your adding is a food source and then any bacteria /fungus present in the soil and water feed of it this gets the cycle going really well.

There is no amonia in that soil so your not waiting on any cycle, I was waiting on the ph to udjust I think if I didnt mention it in the video.

Your filter wall idea is very similar to the matten filter idea. Have you ever thought of trying or have you used matten filters?
@MarksShrimpTanks5 күн бұрын
Yes I have tried them, they are no good in my opinion, they eventually do clog up and if you have a lot of babies they are a real pain in the ass to remove and replay and not worth it in my opinion plus you really dont want all that waste sitting in the tank.

How did the galaxy fishbone and german pinto go about 2 years ago im trying to get boa from galaxy fishbone and german pintos deos it work to get boa😊?
@MarksShrimpTanks6 күн бұрын
You can see them at 14:59 in the video , i stopped selecting them about a year ago a desided I like them the way they were, saying that at the timestamp I gave you if you freeze the video and look at the shrimp middle left its probably the closest I got to a self made boa, it had half a cape but just some face spots if the face spots had been much bigger it would have been a boa.

Hi Mark, i am using the oak bark acid to try to lower my ph in my shrimp tanks, but the Ph keeps bouncing back up to what it was before the acid!! Any help or ideas on why this could be? Thankyou 🦐
@MarksShrimpTanks8 күн бұрын
Hello Joe, If thats the case the tank has its own buffering capacity whats the ph like in the tank?
@JoeDodd-jw7kn8 күн бұрын
@ thanks for getting back to me Mark! My galaxy tank sits at ph = 6.9, gh = 4, and my panda tank sits at ph= 7.2, gh= 4. I simply cant get the ph down. There is a UGF box in both tanks with fluval stratum in and nothing else. There is only thin layer of substrate on the bottom of the tank, some leaves and some moss thats it! How would you advise me to keep the ph low so it does not keep buffering it back up?
@MarksShrimpTanks5 күн бұрын
yeah that is on the high side, are you using RO water and a buffer? in a 10 gallon tank you really need about 3-4 liters of soil.
@JoeDodd-jw7kn5 күн бұрын
@@MarksShrimpTanks yes using RO water, and no buffer at present. I have just started using that oak bark acid that your video recommended. And ahhh i see, i may need more soil

Mark, how do you feed the pleco/fish without overfeeding the shrimp? My tank (30G) has a few cory catfish, but I'm not sure how to make sure they get enough without over feeding my shrimp.
@MarksShrimpTanks14 күн бұрын
I feed my fish every day, in neo tanks feeding is different to caridina tanks, just go by the 2 hout rule when you have fish in the tank.

Hi Mark how are the no water changes going for caridina? No deaths? Breeding? How is your tds is it rising?
@MarksShrimpTanks14 күн бұрын
Hello Grant, its interesting you ask because I did test this last week nearly all of my caridina tanks are between 270 and 300 uS conductivity, my target was 300uS ive not seen a single death in all that time and my shrimp are breeding like crazy.
@grantmurphy789314 күн бұрын
@MarksShrimpTanks that's great. Good to know that tds isn't increasing to much. Do you think adding leaves is compulsory for caridina?
