Hello Captain Kyle. What you consider rambling is educational and interesting to me. In my opinion you can never ramble to much. Explaining what you do and why you do it most likely helps Captions with less experience then you. Thank you for taking the time to make, edit and post your videos. We do understand your day job is top priority. Please don't edit out your struggles it would be very interesting to see how you remedy the situation with your skill and knowledge. Another Awesome video Captain Kyle 💙 we really appreciate you taking time to show us your profession 🤎🤎💙🙂👍👍

Our Great Lakes Freighters have bow thrusters. Is there any bow thruster on the front of your barge or does the tug do all the twisting left & right? How many crew?
@jukebox_heroperson3994 Жыл бұрын
There's no propulsion on any of the barges that I know of. It's all the tow boat.

I was fortunate to ride a tug boat and a large supply/grocery boat up/down the Amazon River in Peru. My dad was working with Bechtel, Inc. I rode each boat for about 1 week on each trip, pushing large barges of pipe. Bud Davis was the captain, my dad liked him and Bud offered to my dad to take me along, which he agreed. What a great experience. The last night on the tug boat, I had too many Pilsner cervezas playing cards with the crew. Woke up the next morning, walked out of the captain's cabin, puked all over the deck below, the crew laughed and washed the deck, that happened twice. I radioed my dad on the shortwave, he had a twin otter on floats land on the Amazon, pick me up to return me to the OU9, as jungle work camp on the banks of the Amazon. With the Bell 206, 205 and 214, the twin otter and tug boat trips, you couldn't pay for a trip like that... I'd love a captain's job on a tug. Great vid... Thanks

What does "on the one" mean? I've heard it used several times by you and in other towboat videos. Just curious.
@larrythomas1065 Жыл бұрын
it refers to horn signals. one t port and 2 to starboard. if you arent on a radio you blow the horn to signal intention. you blow 1 to signal that you are passing with your port to the other vessel

On the one or one Whistle means there Connally pass on the port side on the 2 or 2 whistle is starboard side

It all goes back to Paul Revere when he was in the old north church in Boston 1 if by land 2 if by sea so in towboats terms 1 is Port side 2 is starboard and in lock and dam terms if a dam has 2 chambers 1 chamber would be closest to the bank of the river and the 2 chamber would be farther out in the river
