Christ that performance moved me beyond words,,,,,the organ became an earthquake towards the finale of the fugue,,what an awesome performance,,,,

With Jan Lampa being such an accomplished organist, we see perfect fingering and pedal-work, very clear announcement of every note, wonderful tempo, and with this fine organ (and recording), the best in musical sound. Such a treat to be able to see/hear this performance! Greetings from Canada!

Indeed. Markus Wargh reveals in startling clarity melodic and harmonic elements, especially in the fugue, that are usually lost and muddied in other performances. His interpretationetation accomplished something quite extraordinary, heightened appreciation for the genius of Bach.

I am a great lover of classical music, I have listened to Bach for 20 years and I know all the greatest artists for their skill but you are an exception among my favourites, your performance is perfect and simply divine, you are an exceptional great master, congratulations more sincere

The registration changes bring out the textures of the piece, give the ear a rest from the same registration, and allow for a gradual build to a climatic ending, all to good effect. Nicely done. I understood more about the possibilities of this piece after listening to Respighi's orchestral transcription (Leonard Slatkin, BBC Philharmonic) which colors the piece in a similar way as here with his beautiful instrumentation of the work.

Wonderful interpretation and quality performance. The organ design appears especially good providing great control and flexibility. Perhaps in Bach's Thomaskirche he had console assistants to change the registration during a performance. This organ design is an improvement and one musician can control the organ registration quickly and easily. The photography of the performance is really good. The camera position clearly shows the performance technique without distractions. Great musicianship! Thank you for sharing your artistry.

Unlikely. This work predates Bach's Leipzig period by at least a decade. It originates from his Weimar period (if not earlier), when he was court organist to the two coreigning dukes of Weimar. While Bach did give organ recitals in Leipzig during his Leipzig period, they took place at the Paulinerkirche of the University of Leipzig, not at the Thomaskirche.
@jenesuispassanslavoir7698 Жыл бұрын
The interpretation of starting quietly and adding registers over the course of the passacaglia is a 19th Century innovation. The earliest manuscript copy of the work is in CPE Bach’s hand and says ‘organo pleno’, so the only likely variation would be changes of manuals, if Bach did indeed do that (it is not indicated in the score). Hope that answers your question.

What a magnificent whirlwind of Musical Composition and performance! I've never seen this piece played with such skill and beauty! Bach might have written it,,, but I suspect he would be just a bit jealous in that you might play it better than he did!! ;-)

One of Bach's greatest organ works. Splendid performance allthough I found especielly the ending of the Passacagliga somewhat obscured, perhaps the acousticts of the church or matter of interpretation and how voices are used. Impressive anyhow.

Blessings and thank you so much for sharing your art with us!!!!

I have been looking for that video. You just answered me why i cant find it. So it was deleted? That was my favourite video. I jave heaed different organists play Bach's prelude and Fugue in D major. But with Mr. wargh's interpretation of that piece, i have never heaed anyone play it like he did. Can someone kindly pass on a request of him performing BACH'S PRELUDE AND FUGUE IN D MAJOR ONE MORE TIME. PLEEEEEEEEAAAASSSEEEE

Finally, one of the BRAVE modern organists rebelling against the dogmatic religion of "historically informed performance" practice that would relegate 70% of any organ to accumulate dust. I appreciated the well studied stop and keyboard changes, and the grand crescendo in Passacaglia, so hard to hear nowadays. Very crisp playing in the fugue section, too. Only detrimental note: the unflattering modern-fitting trousers clenching ankles and legs - get a pair of beautiful tradional trousers!

Excellent view showing manuals and pedals. Wonderful performance! In the pedal I make a slight break (phrasing breath) from the G down to the D. At 4:50 we tend to speed up - as he does. I used a metronome to preventhat. 5:51 Funny adding the pedal. *No 32' reed in any Bach.* Bet he will continue into the fugue without a break. Love the way he separates the counter subject: Da-La, da, dut, dut Many connecthe da-lut dut. 12:40 I expected his own addition. Hope he will in future.
