Thank you to Visit Copenhagen: / visitcopenhagen
On this Denmark food tour we started off in Copenhagen for some of the best smørrebrød in the city, and then drove outside of the city to visit Dragsholm Castle for an exquisite meal in an 800 year old Danish castle! #Denmark #Copenhagen #DanishFood
Aamanns Deli & Take Away (goo.gl/maps/aL...) - One of the best and most well known restaurants in Copenhagen for smørrebrød (the Danish open faced sandwiches) is Aamanns. They’ve taken the sandwiches to the next level, using creative ingredients, and balancing every sandwich to perfection. They are truly an art form. I had an honor to be in the kitchen and see them assemble these pieces of artwork. We tried a classic traditional pickled herring, followed by roast beef, and finally a steak tartare. An amazing smørrebrød experience for breakfast!
Æblerov (g.page/aeblero...) - Cider - On the way outside of Copenhagen, we stopped at Æblerov, a small cider producer. Very cool place, and we got to sample a few different types of cider.
Dragsholm Castle (goo.gl/maps/Hn...) - One of the highlights of this Denmark food tour was visiting Dragsholm Castle and meeting with Chef Claus Henriksen. They specialize in Nordic Cuisine, using mainly local ingredients grown or sourced from around the castle. The restaurant in the cellar is a Michelin Star restaurant, and we enjoyed a selection of incredible dishes. What I liked is that everything is focused vegetables and produce, with meat there to support the vegetables. The highlight dish for me was fried hemp (cannabis) leaves in butter, with wild duck. What a dish and what an experience. The hemp leaves were delicious! The only thing I wish is that we would have had time to spend the night in the castle after eating lunch.
Muld (goo.gl/maps/at...) - Organic Farm Restaurant - Finally to finish off this amazing day of Danish food, we drove to Muld, an outstanding farm to table meal experience where they literally use only ingredients they have on their farm for their food - everything from the vegetables and herbs to the meat. We enjoyed some delicious pork, juice, and pickled vegetables. Great place and amazing owners.
Thanks to Esben ( / esbengrundtvig ) for taking me around!
Again, thank you to Visit Copenhagen ( / visitcopenhagen ) for supporting my trip to Copenhagen.

@@MarkWiens Did you visit any other places in Denmark? You missed some of the best places, if you only visited Copenhagen! You should definitely visit Aarhus and Aalborg. You missed some of the best traditional Danish food, like tarteletter, flæskesteg, stegt flæsk, medister, æbleflæsk, brændende kærlighed, and karbonader! I run a small food tour in Aalborg, so I'd love to take you guys around, if you were to come here :D For the curious, here's an explanation of the different foods: - Tarteletter - Puff pastry (usually) with a chicken, asparages, and white butter sauce filling. - Flæskesteg - Whole pork roast with crackling, traditionally served with potatoes, carrots, brown sauce, caramalised potatoes, and red cabbage. - Stegt flæsk - Crispy pork with potatoes and parsley sauce (usually also something sour such as pickled beet root or gherkin). - Medister - Traditional Danish pork sausage, spiced with onion, allspice, and cloves. Usually served with potatoes, caramelised potatoes, brown sauce, and stewed cabbage. - Æbleflæsk - Cured or salted porkbelly, fried with apples, sugar and thyme. - Brændende kærlighed - Literally means burning love. It's just mashed potatoes topped with fried onions and bacon. - Karbonader - A pork patty with a crusty outside, usually served with green peas, boiled vegetables, and potatoes.

Denmark is (both by law and inspection) unbelievable clean .... and the fish is unbelievable fresh due to the low temperatures, just as the largest remaining wild oyster bed of the endangered original European Limfjord oysters are dubbed the best oysters in the world. because to survive in the cold water they simply get more meaty than regular oysters. Once they were completely monopolized by the Danish king, and kept exclusively for the royal tables, but though expensive and quite rare, it's now possible for the "average Joe" and tourists to get a taste. www.huffpost.com/entry/the-worlds-best-oysters_b_1454684 Another thing that is unique to Denmark is that it's not quite as cold as the rest of Scandinavian and actually excellent farm land, but still too cold to harvest twice a year and so not least apples and pears hang on the tree much longer, which makes their natural flavor much stronger ... you could say, that while the Southern parts of the world spice up their food to add more flavor, Danish food seem more fresh and simple but has a much stronger natural flavor so you are in no doubt about what you are actually eating .. you wont be confused about if you are getting chicken or pork, or if you are eating a dish with apples and the flavor of strawberries is just much stronger than elsewhere. When I go shopping at a local supermarket in Denmark, I always stay clear of the cheaper foreign fruit, tomatoes, carrots and cucumbers, simply because they taste much more watery and has less flavor in compare with the local Danish stuff ... and it's not because we are better at producing it, but simply because fruit and vegetables are much longer at maturing in cold weather, which then cause it to be less watery and add a much stronger natural flavor ... it's just a fact of nature itself... and so of cause you rely more on this and need much less to spice up your food.. and obviously this is the best of the best, and not only supermarket quality ... I will agree though, that some of the European food culture may seem tasteless, bland and terrible, just do not confuse this with the slow-maturing food chamber of Europe ... the land of "butter, milk and honey", Denmark. I like very spicy food myself, and can totally understand people who like a spicy curry and other spicy dishes that are an integrated part of their local food culture, but I do have a problem with not being able to tell if the meat in my spicy dish taste like chicken of pig (or perhaps could even be rat meat), because you are not going to be able to tell due to the food being heavily spiced up .. this would not be possible in Denmark where the cleanliness, food control is as strict as the food may seem fairly simple. and it all adds to the price, both the cleanliness and the slow maturing of food and flavors in a colder climate.

MissJoJo The density of the bread he eats in this video is sure to make you full and energized. However, many aren’t satisfied with just being full, so people have to compensate by eating big portions (even if the smaller portion fills you just as much). That one first slice of bread in this video (the bread alone, without the toppings) equals _at least_ 3 regular slices of an ‘American’ loaf of bread, yet doesn’t leave you bloated. Keeps your stomach flat and relaxed, while filling you up just as much (if not more). Edit: typo

The duck dish you are having at 17:00 is garnished with fresh green sheep-sorrel and oxalis. Those are garden weeds in America but the Danish are making brilliant use of them. Both of those plants are super-rich in oxalic acid and should be consumed only very moderately. Oxalates will bind your dietary calcium. Conversely there is a belief that they fight cancer.

@@Zojirushi.2.16 Right, that's why half the people that graduate these days end up being more miserable, and spend more time stressing over paying off their school debt than actually getting to enjoy their money. For someone like yourself who has supposedly gone to school and is a huge advocate of it, It's surprising to me that you can still be THIS ignorant to believe that you truly need school in order to be successful in life. Sure, it helps to learn a few things, but we currently live in a day and age where you can quite literally learn everything you need to online including full end to end university courses, and going to school is simply just to get the degree/certification to tell others "hey there, I'm legally qualified to do x, y, and z. And lets be honest here, 80% of the people you "socialize" with in school don't actually care about you, they care about the things you have and who you hang out with. That's why the majority of the time most people don't keep in contact with school "acquaintances", and then after you graduate THAT'S when you meet the 1-3 REAL friends that'll have your back for life, so that's also a load of bullshit. This is an era where It's no longer about just "going to school", It's about ideas and INNOVATION, and ironically the best kind of innovation comes from a person who isn't told what to think or what's right/wrong like they love to drill in your head at an early age in school. And for the record, seeing as you're so "educated" yourself, I'm sure you're well aware of the fact that some of the wealthiest people in the world never went to school and were self taught.

Wow, what a phenomenal food adventure, everything looked amazing. I'm not sure I'd eat that pork in front of the pigs, I feel guilty eating chicken in front of pigeons, like I'm being judged (giggle)

13:52 I grew up calling those Pierogies. I’m from a neighborhood that used to have a huge Polish community back in the day. My friends moms used to make them for dinner (stuffed with mashed potatoes and cheese). They were soooooo delicious!! All of the food shown in this video just looks absolutely exquisite 😍👌🏻
