I have a Timber Rattler Western Bowie, and like that knife, it’s a beast!🔪 obviously in a pinch, that knife would chop a good size tree/log, but I wouldn’t want to purposefully rely on it to do so. For splitting wood, it’s a winner.

You see, It appears that every time I watch a review, I'm interrupted multiple times on this device, so my video restarts each time; Since I don't keep track of where I am at in the narrative, I autistically watch the same portions over again;-) But, each Statement you spoke had its place, and I only differ with You in calling it "rambling," Ha! What You call "rambling," is better information than many folks' purposeful presentations; so Thank You Heartily for the Time & Energy that You've put into this Video Review. 💖 I've sent the Link to others who Appreciate & Enjoy the use of large, edgy, pointy objects ⚔️. Yes, WTG is Excellent at Fit & Finish, Plus their Amenities of the Bright-Orange fire starter ferrocerium rod kit, sheath options, snug-fitting kydex sheath, lanyard, Velcro Patch, & cup/bottle cozie is just plain Classy 😎 I have a WTG Mt Laguna Knife in Splatter-Pattern Finish with a still-polished bevel that I've batoned seasoned, knotted wood with, And it is a Trooper of a Tool; Yes, even at 4.3" Blade Length! EDC all the way. I would think paired with the Kodiak (or a Good-Sized Busse) and a saw, All one's cutting needs would be at the ready. As this was my first notice of your Channel -- sent by an email from WTG, by the way -- I look forward to viewing Your other outdoor reviews & woodsy offerings. Example: I Appreciated your sparking technique of making the heavy blade stationary & striking the lightweight ferro~ rod Over it. That's valuable info~ for "safe handling," Plus keeping the hard-earned flammable material from jostling out of place. That looks like a very good bushcraft tool. Could come in very handy on short hunting trips where someone might use a hot tent with a small stove which wouldn't take large pieces of wood. Maybe a hatchet or axe would do more work more quickly, but at the price of greater weight and less versatility. I have a huge Gerber Machete with a thick, heavy blade, and a small Morakniv model which goes with me almost everywhere, but can only process small wood. Thanks, Mark.

That thing with sheath is almost as heavy as my grandfors bruks small forest axe. Too big and heavy for my needs. Nice looking though, thanks for the review. I noticed they seem to sell out fast.

How did the edge hold up after the demonstration did it need sharping did the cutting capability hold up, thank you

I did the splitting and carving after chopping the log. When I got home I noted a small micro-role of the edge towards the tip. I believe it occurred hitting a knot in the wood. Other than that, no damage or significant loss of sharpness. The role came out on a ceramic rod. I then stropped the knife to bring it back to full sharpness. Hope this helps. Thanks for commenting

Hey Mark, I bought two of these, and they are impressive. I attached Molle clips to for carrying on my tactical vest. Heavy, yes, but you never know when you'll need it fast.

Yes it is Busse-esque in its design. That's the first thing I noticed about the knife design: it looks very similar to the flagship design of Busse: The Steel Heart 💘 with the ever-popular ergonomic handle shape, not the original straight-handle, as the ergo~ is Built for chopping/batoning with less hand & wrist fatigue. (Carpal-tunnel-syndrome is Not our friend...) ... With the size of the Busse Battle Mistress at over 9" Blade Length, tho. Yet perhaps taller in height. The blade profiles are near identical except for height. Saber grind makes for heavier carry than the full flat of the 2 Busse knives listed above. But, "May" baton more quickly in splitting the wood with less sticking-in-the-wood action than full flat grind, so there is that. It gets to the full blade thickness "sooner" in the movement, so to speak, think Wedge Action, plus gives a wee bit of wiggle room at the "saber portion" of the full thickness blade face. Wiggle room is important when batoning with blade or axehead to remove when stuck:-) I've done a Lot of batoning;-) So Alex's taller design with a saber grind may very well be a slight improvement over a full flat grind with less height, to end on a positive note 🎶

G'day Mark, nice !!! right up my alley. Certainly saves carrying a hatchet. I'm with ya though, I will always carry a saw regardless. The key here IMO is to carefully pair something like this with a decent 5 - 6 incher for finer tasks and something that can get you out of strife should your primary big fella be lost or fail, (in fairness couldn't see this one ever failing, lol). The other aspect I consider when pairing up is to have two different grinds, to provide more flexibility in use and also out of interest/testing. For example; this one being a high sabre with convexed edge, and a thick one at that, I might choose a scandi, full flat or hollow grind as a secondary. I'm sure you get the drift. Oh yeah and at least one or the other must have a reasonably pointy tip for piercing, boring holes, bow drill etc. Cheers Duke.

Lovely knife. Effective dimensions for survival in the Wilderness Woods. BOHLER K329 is Great steel… an A8 mod type designed to replace a S7 Shock steel, with better edge holding & quite rust resistant. SK85 steel is kind of a very though 1084… no chromium carbon steel… ie: the Bohler K329 is the better choice, for that knife)

What gets me about work tuff is the price. The marketing is breathtaking. They use another name for the steel witch is basically 1080. A good steel but not a $250+ type. Amazingly you can by a Skrama for $100 with a Amazing sheath. Really don't see over a hundred and fifty dollars more coming from work tuff. Used to be knives from China were cheaper because of labor and materials. Why now are Chinese knives much more then a knife made anywhere else? Skrama is a great tested knife from a great company. Work tuff are over priced gimmick gear. I see how youtube has become a long commercial for gear given to people so they talk good about it. I miss the old youtube people sharing knowledge and cheap good gear. Now it's look what I've got for free. Nothing against you I enjoyed your trying to use this giant Wall hanger. Just don't see any use for something that big and heavy. A SP5 is about as big as I'd carry. The Skrama is great on a pack. Just my opinion maybe someone really needs a overpriced overweight hunk of steel.

Now that I own both the Terava Skrama and the WTG gear knives I can say that some of the extra cost is the attention to detail on the WTG. I love my Skrama and use it often but is much more roughly finished (and I like that about them) than this knife. Both are solid performers. One is just shinier that the other. Thanks for commenting

Adding to Mark's comment about Attention to Detail; if Fit & Finish Details are paid Attention to, that speaks volumes about the Details that we Cannot See: the Heat Treatment being Primary. It's Invisible to the End User, but about the most Crucial aspect of any Tool...! I Hear You on Price versus Function; as One who has little to No extra funds after living expenses, I concur with many of your complaints. Yet I'd put the WTG Mt Laguna Knife at $89-100 price-point against Any Blade of Similar Size made by Anyone, custom makers included, who charge Hundreds of bucks for their work. I've had several customs yet the Laguna is a Match for All-Comers; so don't be so quick to judge Everything they produce by one offering, such as the Kodiak. That's an ad hominem argument, to base such sweeping conclusions upon... Just sayin' ... I'll check out the Skrama; so Thanks for the heads-up on useful tools. Cheers 🤠!
