I appreciate that, Stefan. :) My schedule right now has been kind of jam-packed, but let me see if I can make an effort to get some more content up here a little more frequently. The next WotC episode should drop tomorrow, in the meantime.

I highly recommend using target preview. If you hold Alt (I think) it shows you what enemies your soldier can see in the space you're highlighting if you were to move there. There's an setting in the Options menu to actually turn that on all the time, which is very helpful. It'll even show if you'll be able to hit the Claymore from where you move to.

I do use it, but I haven't switched it to "always on" yet. I'm so used to the mod that came before it, which is honestly a lot more elegant than Firaxis' version. That one just changes the LoS target indicator (little crosshair on a target) from red to yellow if you're going to flank.

I believe you can do instant complete (and only instant) breakthroughs first without inspired projects disappearing.
