I have super thin nails. I bought builder gel in a bottle because I thought that would help, and then I was shocked when my nails would always immediately lift haha. Well, problem is that they really don't have their own structure. I found out that rubber base gel is a lot more flexible! It's probably what I should have been using all along. I just bought a bottle and have yet to test it but I'm excited to!

I find builder in a bottle works well as long as you prep your nails and do not get the product on your cuticles at all. That’s usually the trick with most nail products though.

In my experience, rubber base is not for you if your hands are frequently in water, or damp for long periods of time. I have curly hair and it takes me an hour to style (I hate it), which means my fingers will be damp with water and curl product for that amount of time. My rubber base peeled off in one sheet as if it had been a peel base; I had done them the day before.💕

So I use rubber gel and I get my hands wet often. The only time I’ve ever experienced this is when I did not properly prep my nails. Clean your cuticles very well with a wooden cuticle pusher, cuticle scissors and A nail drill using safety bits. Then give your nails a nice rough surface, use a dehydrator and primer meant for gel application. Then apply your rubber base. It will last you a very long time, I can typically go 3 weeks before I redo mine and even then there’s no lifting. I only redo it because I don’t like how overgrown nail polish looks. I’m pretty sure I could push it way past 3 weeks.

I can’t take credit as a popular you tuber “Nail Hub” did the test. She also has a video where she talks in detail about the differences in rubber base. Paola Ponce also discusses this. This is a great channel here as well. I love how these women are really showing up to share so many products. I have weak nails so I use Kokoist Mega Stick base and it’s AMAZING for me. I have never lost a nail since I began doing my own. I have had a full cover nail break a corner off at work but never popped a nail off and ver little lifting after 3-4 weeks. I only use Japanese gel products with the exception of Kiara Sky bc I still have it so I don’t want to waste it. I’m very hard on my nails. I deal with store merchandise totes full of products and I can’t believe they survive all that I do to them. Best wishes 🌸

I am 65. I’ve always had very thin nails and noticed my mother and now may have also ridges so that’s just my make up even though I take tons of medication but I noticed when doing my nails and I didn’t want to get polish everywhere I simply took an empty bottle of polish, cleaned it out. Put Elmers glue in it white glue kid stuff painted around your skin around the nail. It does a great job when you’re done with the polish you can peel it right off but it keeps your skin clean you oughta try it anyway thanks for your video. I’m definitely gonna try it.

💕 Marla I love your videos. I’ve been using robber base for awhile. I’m not 100% sure but I think it makes a difference. I’m one of those people who can’t use just gel products-I HAVE to include dip powder with them or they just won’t stick, even with a primer. May I ask what type of reaction you have w the hema? I know nothing about nail polish or products, but I have extreme skin and nail problems on my hands so I need to be aware of potential probs when I finally decide to have nails that aren't horrifying.
@dhsterrett
@dhsterrett Жыл бұрын
@@miaknig3130 I break out with extremely itchy skin anywhere the Hema product touches. Then I scratch and get blisters and pain from the blisters after they break and it’s awful! The only way to manage the reaction is to use a steroid cream that I got from the doctor and then it still takes a while to get in control. To avoid the reaction I use only Hema-free products, I keep the product off my skin, and after a fresh mani, I use a small precautionary measure of the steroid cream to keep everything calm. I also don’t do my nails any more often than once every week or two, either. Since I already know I’m sensitive to it, I want to avoid getting any worse. Hope that helps!
@Arithekiller
@Arithekiller 10 ай бұрын
@@miaknig3130It depends if the product gives you contact dermatitis that basically looks like tiny hard bubbles under your skin, sometimes just a few on some fingers and sometimes a lot of them on all fingers so it might be hard to see at first, I had dermatitis like this for a little while and just stopped using gel and regular polish for about 2 months and tried again being very careful to not have polish touch the skin at all and I threw away all the cheap gels I got from low quality chinese brands and so far nothing happened but I got lucky. Allergy is basically burning and swelling of the fingers mostly around the nail after application and even lifting of the nail if your nail is thin or damaged and the particles go through it down to the skin under, it's pretty easy to notice
@miaknig3130
@miaknig3130 10 ай бұрын
@@Arithekiller wow, thank you! My hands randomly overreact to things that I use daily eg I wear gloves everyday, but occasionally the gloves that are normally benign, will cause extreme swelling, itching, and burning. I tried to use "O'Keefe for working hands" moisturizer, but it caused one of the worst reactions I've ever had. When I tried to wash it off, the cold water seemed to cause the burning to increase. Thanks again!

💗💗💗 your videos never disappoint Marla! Thank you so much! You've described my natural nails to a T! So I'll need to def look into this product. I'm curious to hear how you liked your natural nails when you remove this. It seems it may not give any air to the nail to allow it to be healthy still on the bed but I will wait to see what you find. 😉 I would want to leave it on for as long as it stays. Happy day after St. Patrick's day 🍀🙏🏼❣️❣️😎 Looking forward to your next one. I've just started putting on full coverage tips on my nails, covers whole nail. I find removal is much nicer than the dip on my natural nails 💅 Mine seem to split and peel after they are removed, as well as rip down. 😞 God bless you and thank you for creating your content 🙏🏻 ✨️. Blessings 🙌 🙏🏻

Hey love! So your nails are dead. They don’t need to “breathe” so they’re not suffocating lol. As long as you peel carefully and remove well, your nail shouldn’t take any damage! ❤️

Fantastic Video Marla! Loved to learn there is an alternative to builder gel. Gel doesn't stick to me as much as dip does. I am going to try this for sure. Would you let us know how long this lasted on your nails? Thanks so much for keeping us educated, love your videos.

Love this video. My nails won't hold just gel polish for all the tea in China. Since I found dips, I'm in love as they last 2-3 weeks. But my nails are being beaten up. I'm gonna try this builder gel (thanks to you) but a couple of questions. As a follow up, were you happy with it a few days later? Any comments for that? Would you do a "how to fill rubber builder gel"? Love all your videos, learning so, so much. Thank U! ❤

Finally understand the difference, I bought some but didn’t understand if I could build with it 😅 Do you need base coat like regular gel polish or is the base coat built in?? Could someone just put it straight onto there nails after prep without base or primer?

I started having serious inflammation near my nails. My fingers were red and itchy and inflamed for 3 to 4 days minimum!! I took out my nail paint stash and started testing all the nail paints on separate nails individually to understand the root cause. Alas, it was the rubber base😢 Not sure why it didn't work, because I had been using the same brand's normal base coat and that worked beautifully 😌
