Marlee Matlin is Still Shocked She Won an Oscar

Marlee Matlin won an Academy Award 35 years ago but admitted to Ellen she's still shocked she won for her Best Actress performance in "Children of a Lesser God." The star also talked about her Oscar-nominated film "Coda," and chatted about performing at past Super Bowl games.

This is, hands down, my favorite Ellen interview. Sign Language is so beautiful-I think every American child should begin learning this in preschool or kindergarten. Imagine… we could communicate non-verbally and no deaf person would feel impaired ❤️

it also helps that they've been together for YEARS/DECADES. Barely meeting someone or interpreting for them a few times compared to seeing someone daily and knowing them intimately goes a long way. But he does do a great job.

In college, I worked at a bookstore, and Marlee often came in with her kids. I can’t sign, but she‘d read my lips, or write down her request (like a book title). She was always kind, patient & beautiful! 💗

I'm not shocked at all. She's incredible. I was working at a bar in Saint John when they were filming "Children of a Lesser God". We didn't get many celebrities in Saint John (i.e. like, none). The bar overlooked the Saint John Harbour and one night as I was closing up, I looked out the window and saw William Hurt walking along the boardwalk. He probably thought I was a mannequin in a store because I never moved, jaw hanging open, frozen in place. I'm pretty sure I was still standing there when they opened the bar the next day, drooling and babbling ".....him.....saw....him......saw.....him....."
