I stopped wearing liquid foundation. After my skincare and sunscreen i use a thin pat of Vaseline on the areas I'm prone to dryness, around my eyes, tip of my nose, and corners of my mouth. I use concealer mixed with a silicone primer as my base blended out with a sponge, and concealer on my blemishes. Very light powder, i use wet N wild translucent powder, then powder contour, blush, and highlighter. I set that then do my eyes. Most people comment on how young i look and they think I don't wear make up.

I love these tips!! I am 50 and although I don’t want to look younger, I do want look and be healthy. As I get older, I am dedicated to not equating “looking older” as worse and “looking younger” as better because doing that did a number on my mental health. Getting older is a stage in life that I want to enjoy and empower myself! Thanks for all that you do to help with that.

I know she's been in the industry for a long time, however we're the same age & I was taken back by the fact that she started Trentinoin at 30 yrs old?! There must be an advantage she had to start "so young" compared to others our age, unless she had connections with or to a dermatologist in her later 20's. I'm sure it's more common now for ppl in their late 20's to start, but I've been in the cosmetology industry for almost 20 yrs & I dont know anyone that started that young, personally. Maybe if I was from Cali or Florida (sunshine states) I wld have.

It is a little pricey but goes a long way and really helps. Another item that works well for me is the L'Orieal Dark Spot Exfoliant Peel. I do that twice a week and the Tacha rice wash & moisturizer daily. I have fair thin skin (Irish) it's dry and sensitive so the L'Oreal peel is the strongest thing I think I can use. So yes, I'm 2 minutes into this video and can attest to what she is saying.

Marlena, I just want to say thank you because I’ve been doing my makeup since I was a teen and I’m almost 30 now, recently no matter what products I used I could not get my makeup to look good on my face! It was depressing me and I almost gave up, but then one of your tutorials from back in the day popped up about how to apply makeup correctly, so I followed it step by step. It was like magic! I realized the problem was that I’ve been watching all the new KZbinrs tutorials who use way different techniques and I was trying to copy their new way of putting makeup on my skin, and it’s just not the same and doesn’t work for me. I’m so happy that after months of being so confused, I feel confident and beautiful when putting on makeup again. ❤ I’ll only be following your tutorials from now on.

This is such a good video thank you. And it’s true! Nobody talks about viscosity and it’s so so true. I prefer a thinner formula with both foundation and concealer. And with the formulations in the last just 10 years, even things are getting better and better.❤
@tattyuk7517 күн бұрын
Fabulous video! I’m 50 later this month and I’ve found the older I get, the more important skin prep is prior to make up. I agree wholeheartedly with the thin viscosity being vital as the more pores/lines/creases/texture I have, the physically lighter foundation smoothes over in a much more flattering way. I am the opposite when it comes to concealer than yourself though as I find the more I use, the more there is to gather in the creases and I’m very lighthanded now - I also usually do concealer around my eyes prior to foundation so I don’t have two layers of make up over my crinkliest areas to gather in there. I also use a sheerer, less dense radiant finishing powder rather than a pressed powder with coverage now as it gives much less ‘cake face’ - especially now my skin is getting drier with the perimenopause. I’ve changed so much over even the last 5 years on how I do my face but I still enjoy the creativity and much as I hate to admit it, high end make up - particularly make up for the face itself - works much better for me with a light hand, finer formulas and richer pigment than drug store ranges.

Some really great tips, tricks and hacks here. It's true about the eyeliner, browns/greys are way more flattering especially with my hazel eye colour. Weight loss is also something we don't factor in. I've noticed since losing a lot of weight and as I've gotten older (I'm 54 now) my skin definitely needs a little more help in the plumping, firming and hydration department. I managed to get a hold of those Korean beauty products that you mentioned in your last video so I'll switch over to those and see how I go. Thank you for these great tips Marlena, much appreciated 💜

Hi, I've just subscribed to your channel, I'm going to turn 62 this year, and it's so refreshing to watch a video dedicated for the over 40s. I take really good care of my skin, and it is my biggest expenditure, but I do believe that it pays off in making a more mature woman look youthful. I don't follow trends as they last for a season or two, I just like classic makeup, but I do love a smoky eye, I don't think you're ever too old for that, but done properly. Thanks for the tips. The marionette lines are the ones that go from your lips down to your jaw like the puppets. Those lines you were talking about are the nasolabial folds. Also that blush placement looks fairly odd because that's not where you would naturally have color. So a little bit further up is fine but not that high. Andreea Ali explains blush concealer and highlighter placement pretty well. I also just heard of a trick where you use aquaphor lip balm over your under eyes before putting on any concealer or anything and it helps them look smoother and helps keep any makeup in place.

Happy new year Marlena! 🎉 I am 40, and just had a Fraxel dual before Christmas to address my texture. Mine was due to sun damage so I am doing a series of fraxels. I had NO ideal how much sun damage I had until I had my first Fraxel. I couldn’t get my skin to reflect the light anymore-so yes you’re right exfoliating is critical! But also I would recommend folks to get rid of long-term sun damage too, because that definitely made my skin look dull.

Thanks for all the tips, Marlena! I’m surprised you didn’t mention sunscreen. I’ve never liked sunscreen because I didn’t know when to add it so I opted for sunscreen in my foundation. However, I just started using sunscreen before foundation for the last two months and I’m amazed at how my skin is more even. It’s not because the sunscreen itself has evening effects, but because it’s protecting my skin from further damage and allows me to see the results of my evening out skincare as well as my own skin’s healing process. Question: Would I apply sunscreen before or after the silicone primer like the one you used here?

I am 45 with no botox or fillers. It is ok to have wrinkles…not sure why we are still trying to erase aging but whatever. Your skin is what matters the most. Young girls…listen…wear your sunscreen and take care of yourself. Less makeup on aging skin looks better if you have less to fix. This means a lifetime of drinking the right things, exercise, staying out of the sun, controlling acne. No amount of creams and potions are gonna replace simply taking care of yourself. It is ok to get older. I find the women who try to “fix” things as they age, the older and weirder they look.
@Clouderin17 күн бұрын
I agree with this sentiment but I think a lot of people find they are "too late" and didn't realize the damage things could do, until the damage is already done. Young people definitely over-do it and will likely regret it later. But nothing wrong with wanting to look younger when you don't "feel" your age!
@lynettefinnigan954017 күн бұрын
I'm 64, never had botox or anything like that either, always use moisturiser and I have minor lines not even wrinkles, a good skincare protects the skin and makes it feel much nicer.

100%! As lovely as Marlena seems. What she’s failing to inform everyone is she had Botox and from the look, quite a bit. In her forehead, around her eyes and between her eyebrows. I know firstly because her face does not budge. Plus, I’ve also had it so I know what it looks like. No one 45 has skin that doesn’t move. It’s a lot unfair, because women could watch this and wonder why they don’t get the same results when they’re following the video. You never will until you get the same treatment she has had.

I‘m 53 and have very light skin. As I never tan (I‘m either white or red), I either avoided sun or put on the highest sun protection that was available on the market (today SPF 50 it is). I was always made fun of because I‘m so white. But now I really see a difference in the skin when I compare mine to those who always were so proud of their tan skin. I don‘t like foundation as it makes me feel dirty. I use an excellent toner, serum, light skin cream for my dry but oily skin and an eye cream. I only make sure that my eyebrows are plucked properly and coloured a shade darker. Sometimes I put on a bright lipstick that suits my skin colour. And that‘s it. I feel beautiful and youthful with it.

Excellent video, Marlena. Appreciate your tips. Hearing so much these days on red light therapy. SO EXPENSIVE. I will be adding many of your tips and tricks. Your makeup is always flawless. Appreciate your help and experience! Marlena - question: what can we do to "lift" the side of the mouth and lower area - without using fillers. PLEASE advise. Thanks.

I friggen love how you do your eyes. Can’t wait to the this tomorrow. I hope it turns out. I feel so mixed. If I do a lighter eye people ask me if I’m sick. I’ve got so much texture around my eyes it’s hard to do. 😢.

There are many, many good makeup brushes out there. I'm glad you have your favorite brushes, but don't make people think there are not other options

You are so good at this; very knowledgeable. I appreciate listening to people with expertise. I hate to admit that at some point I stopped using skincare and noticing the difference. I have terrible lines on top and below my lips. My lipstick bleeds into these lines. What can I use to minimize this?

What you put in your body is just as important as what you put on your body especially as you turn 50! A good quality collagen powder is a great addition to your beauty routine! Don’t skip sunscreen especially on areas exposed to the sun each day (face, neck, chest, arms, hands). Sun exposure a thins the skin…so does age as our collagen production decreases.
