Marlene said 'ships' not 'couples'. Alison was Emily's first love and their story goes further back than any other ship. If Emaya is an original ship you might as well add Sean/Hanna and Spencer/Alex. You can have your own original ships but Marlene is the creator of the show and if she says Emison is an original ship then that's just how it is on this show.

+Mariaa Emaya was a thing until Maya died. In other words, for two seasons. And they stoll had her having trouble moving on in Season 3 from her death. Sean/Hanna and Spencer/Alex lasted for like, a couple of episodes and we never saw from either boyfriend again. Maya was a topic of conversation even if they were broken up. Meanwhile, Alison was perceived to be dead up until that point. In terms of years, their love story may have stretched for longer because, well, Emily knew Alison for a longer period of time than on the show. But Emaya was a very important part of this show and it annoys me when people forget about the person that is the reason for the woman that Emily is today (I mean, she helped her come out and be comfortable with herself for God sakes) And I wasn't arguing with Marlene. Notice I originally said, Emaya should be added to that list. Not that Emison should be taken out of the equation. But there was a time in Seasons 1 and 2 and even in the beginning of 3 that Emaya was one of the main ships, thus the original ships. It was always Ezria, Emaya, Spoby and Haleb until it couldn't be any more because Maya was dead. Emison started becoming a popular ship around Season 4. So, when she says original ships, I understand Emison's placement but if we want to talk real OG, Emaya belongs there too because they were a staple couple in PLL's history. Sorry for the long comment. 💟

(First, if anyone reads this, sorry about my english, but I neeeeeed to comunicate about pll with the world!) I want to share something I think about Spoby, specially after that big moments on 7x10. I have no words to say how deep that got me. That is one of that moments that make you think about love itself, about life, actually. So, about PLL, as a since day one, 2011,too old for this shit but still hanging there die hard fan: I love Spencer, I love Toby, I love Spoby ( "camon, it's Spoby"), and I love this entire crazy thing called PLL, so much. Spencer has always been one of my ultimate favorites, not just on pll, but from tv shows characters, books and all. And because all of that I think it would be perfect if she had died in this episode, same as Toby. I think it would be a perfect twist if Ivone turned out to be alive, and only her. It would be perfectly, tragically, hauntingly beautiful endgame for Spoby, to die together. A lot of us would be pissed, crazy, so mad, so shocked, we would talk, scream, feel and cry about this forever. But this would be indeed one of those big great loves, like a movie, impossible to destroy with the time, reality, and impossible to forget. Just like this kiss, the memory of Spoby would never lose it's color. Let's not forget that this is the last season, this is the end. This is the time to kill a main character, sorry not sorry. I know PLL isn't realistic but in life we do lose people, we do lose LIFE everyday. Out of the blue. And we got hurt, and we do move on. It can't be a happily-ever-after-with-my-high-school-sweetheart for all of them, as much as I'm a huge Spoby, Emison, Haleb and Ezria shipper, it just can't. It's painful, as a fan, to watch that beloved characters to die, but I would respect if the writers went there. I don't think it's going to happen, but here's my deep down my mind and heart's opinion. (And of course they would have to tie Wren's storyline on this situation no matter what, just saying. :D) :*

not trying to be mean but I. Marlene King needs to take a hard seat back, go back to school and learn how to write, direct, create, whatever u want to call it. cuz she dont have many credits to her name and every show and movie she has made has flopped hard, except for then and now and pretty little liars. however then and now, critics panned but i found it entertaining as a kid. pretty little liars was only good for the first 2 seasons, and entertaining until the 4th season. once the source material from the books were used up by the 2nd season, the show got stranger and stranger, to the point of stupid. sure in season 1 and 2 they did their own things but they mixed in source material. she isnt a very good writer, director, creator or show runner. sure she has done some good. toby from the book, who was a rapist, into a lovable guy on the show. then she did some bad like turn ezra, a peddo, into a lovebale guy. casting unknown folks for shows r good but make sure they can act! pretty little liars is her only true breakthrough and she has held onto it as long as she could with 2 failed spinoffs. hell the perfectionist should have never had any pll tie ins and should have been its own thing but nope, not for her and freeform. now thats canceled cuz fans saw it for what it was, a rip off and no real answers to all those unanswered pll plot holes.
