@loboel264mag75 жыл бұрын
I have changed hooks out on a lot of my baits over the years. Sometimes I have killed the action by going to the next larger size. Some dove a little deeper and still had great action. Downsizing hooks on the heavy baits might improve the action. On the high floaters running a big hook on the belly and smaller hook on tail will tend to get them down quicker. Lipless (rattletrap) crank baits done the same way might give you even more insight. I’m guessing that maple and walnut might do very well. One more thing that this old fisherman can tell you is that if you bought 10 baits the same size color and make of any of the commercial brands and fished them. There would be some that were special the fish would hit them on the bad days. There would be some that the fish would turn up there noses get a case of loc- jaw. Then there will be the bunch in the middle. I have seen tournament guys that would get out of the boat and go underwater to get a special bait back in the winter.

I feel like the current is playing a role in making them seem less stable than they are. Current is simulating a faster retrieve, compounding your retrieve. Perhaps try this again in some still water, I'm interested to see. I like the idea of denser woods, so adding weight isn't as necessary.

Love this type of experimental video. Also, I was helping my buddy with a shed and he had some scrap wood left over, which he was planning to just burn. I was explaining that he should try to use all of it that he could to not waste it. Most of what he had left was plywood. This got me thinking, could Marling Baits make a lure from plywood? A plywood lure would be so cool since most of us probably have plywood laying around somewhere. I hope you give it a shot. On to the next wood!
