Such a genius! He was more of a philosopher than anything else! He searched for the truth! The most difficult thing to do! Love him!

How actors don't like this anymore. He was deep and the way he talked about different subjects was very introspective.

I love when he talks about how we're always looking at the extremes. He's spot on. Every video on youtube transcends in to arguments about who is best and who is worst.

Interviewer: Don't you realize that youre thought of as the greatest actor ever? Brando: (looks at dog) Tim's the greatest actor ever. He pretends he loves me when he wants something to eat. Get outta here! hahahahahahah classic!!

One of the most easy-to-listen-to human beings we've ever known. Beside some rather odd editing choices, this interview was classic Marlon: breezy, philosophical, entertaining, challenging, and over way too soon. Sublime, clownish, thoroughly honest.

Brando seemed so vulnerable in so many ways, yet hard in so many too. What a duality...I bet it made him crazy sometimes. No matter what....that face was so beautiful...especially the eyes....amazingly expressive man.

Like Erroll Flynn, Brando had a Warm Quality, Natural heroic quality, Studied Life always, some of his performances are so good, they cannot be described.

8:40 to 9:04, pure gold. '... everybody has their own value in a different way'... Beautiful. The essence of living responsibly and respectfully towards those around you-us. The man is fantastic, what movie star is interviewed in a long in-depth feature and does everything they can to avoid talking about their movies and the glamorous side of their life???

In most interviews, Marlon seems reluctant to talk about his work, but this interview is an exception. Its one of my favorite interviews with him. Marlon Brando - one of the best actors of all time...if not the best actor of all time.

the same reason the people on this post idolize him is the same reason just about every actor on the planet and person whos watch film likes him .Even the chick interviewing him is in awe ."Dont you realize that your thought of as the greatest actor ever ?" ..Brandos response is priceless when he says that his dog is the greatest actor ever.People are so enamored with this guy that he could spill his secret out in the open and they still wont believe it .which he is doing in this interview

Jesus! This man was sexy, smooth, incredibly talented and spoke at least 4 languages fluently: English, German, French and Tahitian. What was his IQ, 170? I wouldn't be surprised. Brando was the classiest man you could ever meet

Brando talks about how everybody Acts and he's 100% right, I've always realized this im only 25. it baffles me how this women, Dick Cavett, Larry King don't understand this and argue with Marlon about this when he brings it up....one of the best actors ever, a pioneer of acting, is telling them what acting is...and they're fucking arguing, and telling him no thats not it....seriously i wish Brando would just bitch smack these people and walk away...

I will always believe he liked to act to some degree, regardless of what he has said over the years. he's stayed in the same profession for several decades for one, and some of his characters are so good, I cant see him doing those roles despising them. connie chung caught him in a good mood, or she had an effect on him to make him at ease, usually he's a tough interview.

My impression is that in the mid 70s, after the success of The Godfather and Last Tango In Paris, Brando essentially lost interest in the creative process and acting in quality projects and decided that he would accept films where he would invest the minimum amount of time for the maximum financial benefit, i.e. Superman, Apocalypse Now, The Formula, etc. In doing so, he squandered his talent, which was so apparent in the Kazan films, Streetcar, Waterfront, Zapata, etc.

How could Connie Chung win an emmy for this interview? Marlon is very clear that he has no respect for the acting profession yet she persists with her fawning questions. Great to see him when he was happy, before all his troubles with his son Christian.

@Lytton333 Haha I see your point! But I think on a deeper level he was just referring to how society constantly wears some sort of facade or deceptive visage or mask of the truth to make others believe things about us that they want us to believe. More instinctive, not like ya know, if I'm trying to be mildly polite about an ugly dress I won't say it so that means I'm acting- just how one presents him/herself in certain situations!

@shainahasnousername I'm reading it right now and I agree. He isn't trying to portray himself as right or justify his career decisions. Had he been raised in a remotely functional family he would never have gone into acting. A line of work like that was a waste of his genius

He went to his grave without accepting the fact that all people had a personal life, a public life, happy times to talk about, and bad times that movies gave an escape from. In his constant need to reject both the "show" AND the "business" of Show Business he came across as what he continually complained about; self-centeredness.
